i was accepted into Plattsburgh, Buff St, Oswego, and Fredonia. i already visited plattsburgh and loved it. going to see buff st and fredonia in april. i'm intending to major in Political Science and was wondering which has the best program. also im not too big into partying so i was wondering if there was other things to do. i saw in plattsburgh there was a hookah lounge and that made my day. please help by giving me some info on the schools and towns. thanks

If you're looking for a traditional college experience, I would avoid Buff State. It's not really known an academically challenging school around here. I've heard several people describe it as extension of high school. It may have a good department, but I severely doubt it's any better than the other schools' departments. I'm sure you'll find plenty of activities within Buffalo. It's certainly the largest area. I would definitely visit to get a feel of the student body/campus.

Oswego and Fredonia have reputations as party schools, but the academics are still pretty decent. The partying culture is definitely avoidable IMO. Fredonia has plenty of campus events throughout the year, especially if you're into music or cultural things. My friend's sister is very satisfied as a history major at Fredonia. She's not into partying and she still finds plenty of things to do. I know a few acquaintances at Oswego, and they seem satisfied as well.

Have you looked at the facebook pages for these schools? I'm sure it would be helpful to talk to current students and people in your intended major!

thanks nybmc

Son (a junior) is currently a Poly Sci major at Plattsburgh (minor in Sociology) and loves it. They have a new professor in the dept. that is excellent and very challenging. His specialty field is International Security. PM me if you have any questions.

thats exactly what i want to do. weird. im transfering in as either a sophmore or junior depending on if i take summer classes. has he applied for any interships yet and does he know if they are hard to get into

Actually, son transferred to Plattsburgh (from a highly ranked private college) and started his sophomore year there. I'll send you a private message.
