So this is my second semester at a JC, and I have 19 units completed so far, and adding 16 more after this Spring semester is over. However, I do NOT have all the IGETC requirements completer, nor do I have tall the transfer requirements, and I might not be able to finish by the end of the 2011 Spring semester - which would be the last semester, I hope, at my JC.

This is my question: If I just apply as a regular "straight out of high school" student, will all my units get lost, or what would be the smartest thing to do??

P.S. I want to apply in this 2010 application period, since I have obviously missed the deadline, AND I do NOT want to spend more than two years at my JC.

ANYONE GOT ANY ADVISE FOR ME????????

Ok here’s what I’ve gathered from what you’ve written above:

You’ll have 35 units done at the end of this spring. That is fine! You should easily be able to apply in fall 2010 and have 60 units done by spring 2011. You have until the END of spring 2011 to reach your 60 transferrable units and have IGETC completed.

My recommendation: Do summer school if you can! I did 10 units over this summer and it saved me another year at my CCC. You’ll seriously thank yourself later if you do this.

Also, get your English (2 courses) and math (1 course) out of the way as soon as possible! These are core courses and the UC’s like to see them done by the end of fall. The last grades they see are these fall grades, so have your english and math done by then.

Plan ahead. Create your schedule by planning out your summer and fall courses. By doing this you can and should have nearly all of IGETC and your major prereqs done. Btw you have until then end of spring to finish IGETC requirements. In your major, try to get as many of the prereqs done as you can before the end of fall 2010. The more you have done, the greater chance you have of being accepted.

If you apply as a regular freshman, you will retain your units and completed courses and everything, but you will be placed in the regular freshman applicant pool which often has many more applicants and is more exclusive. I would say that you should apply for fall 2010 as a transfer and make use of all terms (summer, fall, and spring) to get those 60 units/Igetc/major prereqs done.

Good luck!

THANK YOU!!!
that was actually REALLY helpful, i’ definitely take your advice!!

You’re welcome, PM me or post more questions if you need anything else. Glad I could help out :).

first of all, you have enough time to completed your IGETC. secondly, that is your ONLY option, to complete the IGETC and transfer as a junior. you are ineligible to apply as a freshman once you take college courses.
