I can't stop agonizing over whether I'm going to get accepted to particular schools, even some I use to be fairly confident about, I'm now doubting whether I will get accepted. I'll post my scores, GPA, course load, rank, activities etc, and the schools I want to apply. Honest opinions on whether I have a shot would be greatly appreciated.

SAT:
CR- 720
M- 590
W- 630
althought I am taking these again and I expect a lot of improvement because I plan on studying loads this summer.

ACT composite- 28
I'm hoping this will also improve in the fall as well.

I'm ranked 30 out of 280+ kids.

I'm only ranked that low because of my GPA my freshman and sophmore year. I had a 3.8 but the classes were not weighted.

This year I had a 4.0 GPA unweighted, 4.65 weighted.
I took three AP tests, 2 I self studied for.
I got two 4's and a 3.

I'm the president and founder of the young democrat's club, I'm in diversity club, newspaper staff, lit mag, and various other activities.
I volunteer at the library on weekends, at my church, etc.

I want to apply to these schools:
American University
Northeastern University
Boston University
George Washington University
Villanova
and NYU

do I have a shot?

You look like a lot of people. I don't know whether you have a shot. A lot of people do "various activities." I posted one of these "chance me" threads a long time ago, and I've found that they're useless. Whether you have a chance or not, you're still going to end up applying, if you really want to go. Why does it matter how good your chances are. You have a 65.141u34u349% chance of getting in.

I guess I should have been more specific when I said I do "various activities" because I realize everyone else does too, but I won't apply unless I feel confident. I didn't want anyone to "chance me," just to give me an idea if I'm at least in the ballpark so I don't waste my time applying somewhere I don't have a chance.

If you just want to know if you're in the ballpark, then check the school's SAT medians, and such.

Looking at the info you provided, I think you have a pretty good shot. I'm not an expert. I only have personal experience. My grades were not as high as yours and I got into Cornell University. I'm just saying that you are a strong student and the admissions staff will see that. Now a days I see so many kids signing up for so much stuff just to "Look good" to colleges. Not because they actually enjoy doing the stuff. You seem to be worried about your chances a lot. Don't because its not worth it. You seem to be pretty smart and I think you will get into those universities. If you don't, don't sweat it. It wasn't meant to be. I was soooo sure I was gonna get into Brown. It was my #1. I really wanted to go there. But I didn't get in and I looking back, I am glad that I am at Cornell now. It think it was meant for me to be here. So good luck, keep working hard and relax. Kids put too much pressure on themselves regarding grades and colleges these days. :)

American University--Match
Northeastern University--Match
Boston University--Match
George Washington University--Slight Reach
Villanova--Match to Slight Reach
NYU--Slight Reach, although it depends upon your major. If you apply to NYU CALS, then Match to Slight Reach, while for Stern (business) or the fine arts programs, then definitely Slight Reach.

P.S. Good choice of schools for you.

I think you will be fine for villanova. I mean i am not expert on colleges because i am looking myself and did not do very well on my SATs/ACTs but a girl who went to my highschool last year went to villanova and she had lower SAT scores, a 29 on ACTs and very few AP courses. She does do track, keep in mind but she didnt go there specifically for that. All that said i think you look much better than her and she got in. Gook Luck!!
