I need some input

I will be heading off to college soon, and I can't decide what to major in. I've narrowed my choice between materials engineering and industrial. I plan on getting an MBA or a Masters after I graduate.

Would it be redundant to go BSIE-->MBA? Should I go MSE-->MBA? Or should I do something else? I am open to ideas.

Do you think that Materials is too limited because of material specialization?
Is industrial a sought after degree?

I will be going to UF, a good state school.

Thanks.

Well for starters, you should stop making grand grad school plans now. Keep that in the back of your head, but focus your efforts on making it through the first couple of semesters of undergrad before setting your heart on a graduate degree.

Second, both degrees are marketable/sought after. You will be able to find a job with either one, so honestly, just pick the one you feel most “at home” with.

BSIE->MBA shouldn’t be redundant as far as I can tell. Completely different and also very complementary.

Agree with boneh3ad on this. There is nothing wrong with having goals to go to grad school etc. but seriously, you don’t even know if you like engineering yet. Many people that start college in engineering will not graduate in it. The first couple of years of college you should focus on getting through your classes and try to get some work experience through internships and co-ops. Once you are certain that you enjoy engineering, you can then focus on graduate school.

If you are not absolutely sure that you want to specialize in materials, I would suggest getting an undergrad in ME or chemE. Both of these undergrad degrees would go well with a graduate degree in materials but would give you more flexibility upon graduation if you decide not to go to grad school.
