I need some quick help?

Hi guys and gals at College Confidential. I, being the worried junior, need a little bit of advice. I am stuck between two schools I really love for the early round of applications.

On one end is the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton), because they have one of the best programs for my intended majors (Jerome Fisher M&T), and I really like the campus and the vibe.

On the other is Stanford (SCEA). Stanford has by far the most beautiful campus I have ever visited, and I always wanted to move to the west coast (being a Massachusetts guy). I also like the culture there, which seems a little less pretentious to me, and I am not a big fan of the elitism I have seen around my home state.

Statistically speaking, I have fairly typical stats for an applicant to either of these Universities.

GPA: 3.98 UW (Darn A-) 4.47/4.5 W (Honors=AP).
Class Rank: None Official (GC hinted I'm in the running for Val.)
SAT: 2300 (800M, 760?CR, 740W?)- don't really remember exact subsection scores.
SATII: Chem (800), Bio (760), Math IIC(800), USH this June.
AP: Taken- Euro (5), Chem (5)
Taking/Will Take- Physics B, APUSH, Lit, Lang, Bio, Gov, Psych, Calc BC, Stats.

EC's: In School= Founder and Pres. of Business Club (I think good for Wharton?)
-Raised $2000 in 2 weeks for Robotics Competition.
Varsity Tennis- #2 Singles This Year (NTRP 5.5) (Captains based on Age)
-Our team is quite competitive (45 try, 12 Make) (no Recruit though)
Varsity Golf- #4
-State Champs... 4 Handicap.
Theater- Supporting Lead Soph.+Jun. (Rare for an Indian?)
NHS- Just Got In (Have About 100? hours so far)
Mu Alpha Theta (Math NHS, Officer Next Year).
Music NHS (Qualified by Making All-State Choir)
Math Team (Varsity)
Young Politics Club (Treasurer)
French Club (Secretary)
Out of School: Intern at Blood Testing Lab (Conf. Reasons can't name).
Intern at Hedge Fund (3 weeks over summer)
Paper Delivery Boy (8th- 10th)
Relay For Life Volunteer
Yale Summer Camp (Frosh Summer)
No Awards =(
So that's really It. Which should I use my Early Card on?

I’d try Penn ED. Good stats like many others, but no stand out EC.

Thanks Waverly. Bump.

Great stats! I agree, try Penn ED.

Cool, thanks for your opinions =D. How do I make one of these activities “stand out”? And also, is there a (significant) difference in my “chances” at these two universities, or are they generally in similar difficulty ranges (Wharton vs Stanford)?

I just wanted to see what the thought process is in choosing one over the other (like is penn RD much harder than ED).

Penn does give EDers a boost whereas EA and Stanford is not a boost for the unhooked. In general, they are equally hard to get into. A strong EC will go beyond the high school and local community. If you can get recruited for a sport, it’s the strongest hook.

Well, pick one (or a couple) of the activities you are most interested in, and do something meaningful during that activity (eg. Many math kids enter the MAA competitions, and they move on, from AMCs to AIME to USAMO). For example, if you choose tennis, win some competitions and awards.
Also, to help your chances, get some awards. Any awards can only help.

Err your chances for Penn ED are higher than those for Stanford.

Bump 10char. Also, would having a State Ranking in tennis make a difference? Because I do (it’s not amazing, but still good).

And I applied for an NIH internship over the summer (if I get it it would be pretty neat) and
also got rejected from RSI (figures).
