I need some schools please for a NORMAL kid

Hello everyone.

I need some schools that I can actually get into. All of the schools I'm looking at are ridiculously hard to get into. Ill tell you guys what I want, and maybe you can give me some schools.

I want
* a big sports scene
* traditional campus
* I want the school do have a prominent, prestigious name
* cool weather
* size isn't a factor
* a very residential school.... most of the kids live on campus and don't go home on the weekends

Ill just give you a few of my stats so you know where to look

28 ACT
3.99 weighted GPA... like 3.75 unweighted
varsity athlete

thanks

You could reach for Northwestern with those stats.

Applying ED and showing interest could boost your chances.

mmm...
i dont know if i agree with the guy above. Northwestern is a bit out of reach with a 28 on the ACT and a 3.75 UW GPA. my friends got in this year with about a 2200-2400 SAT/32-34 ACT and definitely 4.0+ GPA. im guessing it was more competitive this year with over 21,000 applicants, a 20% increase in the applicants this year. i hope its not as competitive next year because Northwestern's my dream :P

i'd say CMU would be a good school, but it would depend on your major.

How about Clemson, Villanova, UDel, James Madison, Univ. of South Carolina, U Miami, Ohio State, Rutgers and some of the florida state schools? Rutgers, Delaware, Nova and Ohio might not have the weather that you are looking for, but the other schools that I listed have warmer weather.

Sorry, I did not read the "cool" weather part. I put in a different answer on the parent thread.

Reaches:
-Cornell University (will have to improve ACT to 30+. Has solid Hockey program)
-Georgetown University (will have to improve ACT to 30+, good Basketball program)
-Northwestern University (not such a big sports scene, but decent. Will have to improve ACT to 30+)
-University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (given your handle, I probably didn't need to include it in the list!)
-University of Notre Dame
-University of Virginia (not that cool weather-wise, but what the hell. If not from Virginia, should improve ACT to 30+
-Vanderbilt University (average sports, but if you root for the opponent, you get to enjoy SEC sports! LOL)

Matches:
Colorado College (great Hockey program)
Pennsylvania State University
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Safeties:
Indiana University-Bloomington
Ohio State University (yuck!)
University of Colorado-Boulder
University of Connecticut
University of Iowa

Some might consider this a reach but it won't harm at all to apply to Notre Dame. I can totally see ND fulfilling your needs.

Vanderbilt has quality sports teams. The basketball team has three 20-win seasons in the last four years (including two Sweet 16s). Highlights this year include an upset win over #1 Florida and sweeping Kentucky (four consecutive wins over UK). Derrick Byars and Shan Foster made All-SEC teams and they finished the season ranked among the top 20 teams in the country.

Vanderbilt football has improved immensely in the last two years to the point where the games are very competitive. Last time we were at Knoxville, we defeated UT and this year we beat the University of Georgia on their homecoming. Vanderbilt's Earl Bennett is the best wide reciever in the SEC and we have a good chance at going to a bowl game next year.

Vanderbilt's baseball team is #1 in the country and the heavy favorite for winning the College World Series. ESPN analysts expect David Price to be the first round pick in the draft and Pedro Alvarez turned down $1 million Boston Red Sox contract to play for Vandy and is tearing up the stat books. Tim Corbin is building a dynasty here for baseball.

You might also consider Syracuse.

Sports and your stats:

UMich
Wisconsin
the rest of the big ten

Syracuse
Pitt
Clemson
Villanova

Cool weather along with good schooling etc. and prestige...

UMich, Wisky, Cuse, and 'Nova would be your best bets.

BC and Northwestern could be reaches.

Illinois and Washington wouldn't be bad choices.

Georgetown University

Syracuse University

University of Pittsburgh

Villanova University

University of Notre Dame

University of Connecticuit

Rutgers University

Notre Dame, Holy Cross, Colgate.

Boston College
Rutgers
UVA
Pittsburgh
UConn
Maryland!
Michigan

A lot of the schools that people are suggesting sound like reaches for him. Not that his stats are bad, but he indicated that he doesn't feel like a really strong candidate. I agree with Amykins- Syracuse sounds ideal. U Conn, U Iowa, U Wisconsin Madison, Michigan State sound good.

Have a little faith in yourself. Your normal by CC-elite standards- of the people who will graduate high school the same year as you, you are probably better than 75% of them, if not more. If you felt like a better candidate, wrote good essays, and brought your ACT up by three or four point, you would be a great candidate for a lot of schools.

You have as good a shot as anyone else. Don't hurt yourself by feeling mediocre when your not!

Lehigh sounds like it could be a fit.

I'd suggest that if you want a big sports scene, you might want to go with mid to large sized schools that have DI sports. Some suggestions:

REACHES: Cornell University (NY), Dartmouth College (NH), Georgetown University (DC)

SEMI-REACHES: Boston College (MA), Colgate University (NY), University of Michigan (MI), Villanova University (PA)

GOOD FITS: Bucknell University (PA), Butler University (IN), College of the Holy Cross (MA), Lafayette College (PA), Lehigh University (PA), Syracuse University (NY), University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (IL), University of Maryland College Park (MD)

LIKELIES: Marist College (NY), Michigan State University (MI), Northeastern University (MA), Ohio University (OH), Penn State University Park (PA), Purdue University (IN), University of Colorado Boulder (CO), University of Connecticut Storrs (CT), University of Delaware (DE), University of Massachusetts Amherst (MA), University of Pittsburgh (PA)

Cornell, Georgetown and Dartmouth are reaches that may not be worth the application fee and the trouble of applying. Not everyone needs big reaches!

These sound good to me -
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (IL),
University of Maryland College Park (MD)
Michigan State University (MI)
Ohio University (OH)
University of Delaware (DE)
University of Pittsburgh (PA)

Penn State is really almost a perfect fit to your criteria. May want to try for the Schreyer Honors College as well there.
