I need some serious help!

Hi all!

I'm a new member here and please forgive me if this is in the wrong section.

My girlfriend is in a very unforgiving situation and I'd like to help as much as I can. I'm in the Army and just got back from deployment, and I'm still half the country away so it's already tough, but here's the meat of the story.

She is attending a community college. She has a 4.0 gpa. She was going for a Laboratory Science program with a limited number of slots. She was accepted but unfortunately something happened (after already being in over a year) with her transcripts from highschool and she is being denied access to the school (basically being kicked out). The problem is that she had to leave highschool in her senior year but went back during the summer to finish the one class she needed to graduate. It was a basic high school chem class. She passed it, graduated, and life goes on. Now, in her mid twenties, going through school, working, has a child and house to manage and suddenly she has this dilemma. She has gone up through the chain of advisers and chair members of her college and since the high school messed up on the transcript, they won't let her continue unless she takes that high school class over again. Keep in mind, she has a 4.0 and has passed her Clinical Lab Science courses with all A+. The Chair denied the ability to test out, regardless of her gpa.
Now, the program she wishes to attend will start before she'd be able to pass this high school level course and she wouldn't be able to get back in until 2015.

What, if any choices does she have here? Is there legal help that can assist with this?

This is a very serious issue and I would appreciate any constructive responses and/or help that can be given.

Thank you

If it truly is the fault of the high school she needs to contact legal aid in her community and get some advice. I would think the high school will hop on correcting it quickly if there is possible legal actions. If she is at fault she needs to bite the bullet and retake the class. I’m not sure I have all he facts but how did her transcripts get reexamined? I mean it seems she was admitted.

Thanks for the quick reply! That’s the weird thing about her getting in and everything…if there is a problem now, there should have been one when she first got accepted. It just doesn’t make sense to me either, like they made a mistake in the first place. What had happened with the High School was that they apparently forgot to add in the summer course on her transcripts and even though she ended up getting her certificate of completion or diploma, they don’t have any records of her passing the class. It’s just a tough situation all around. I understand why the school is doing what they are doing partially, but I would think that she should at least be able to test out given the courses and grades she has. But unfortunately, I’m not the one who gets to make that decision

Has she shown documentation proving she graduated from high school? Like suggested above, if they need the hs to correct it, I would get legal help. Schools (and people) are suddenly much more helpful once you lawyer up.

I hope this works out! Hooyah! (Or replace with your branch, I just always stick to my own)
