I need some serious honesty and advice!

I completely bombed my SAT II's. a 720 in US history (83rd%) and a 680 in Chem(70th%). (both out of 800) I took the AP tests for those 2 subjects as well! I had thought I had done well but obviously not. Should I take them over? I took them the same week as I took the AP's and I was in serious studying mode. Prom was that night, but I don't think it had an affect. Can I get them rescored? maybe due to smudges or something? Will my AP's be reflected with these scores? If I do well on my AP's, will colleges care because my SAT II's are so bad? I was the grand chemist at the chemistry olympiad in my area.. what is wrong with me, how did I do so bad on the SAT II!! LAME! What would you do in my situation?

sheesh! they were quick to get rid of those messages... I want to know if he was being serious and if it really is that bad however.

no, i was kidding. don't take my sarcasm seriously.

then what do you think?

i don't know how valid my opinion is, but personally I think that 720 is an exceptional score for US history, as is anything over 700, it all depends on what schools you are going for, but personally I would be satisfied with a 680 and not retake it because SAT II's only have SO Much bearing on your application and resume considering your other stats probably outweigh them

just keep them.

if you are convinced that you can improve your score by 50 points, retake it.

Those percentiles are misleading...only top kids take it. For example, less kids get a 700 on the history SAT II than get a 5 on the AP Exam.

what do colleges think though? people are posting on here that they dont' even have to take the class and they do well!

They will think your scores are fine. Improving by 10 or 20 points will mean nothing...they know it is just the luck of the draw. If you can do 50+ points better, it will certainly be to your advantage.

I wanted to apply to a few lower ivy league schools and schools like northwestern. would these colleges also think they were ok?

For the colleges you want to apply too, I would retake chemistry..do not retake us history, that is a perfectly fine score for us history (same explaination as the above poster on percentiles are in fact misleading). The 680 may hurt, try to bump that around 720+, the curve is generous for that test as well, if you have time to retake the chem then I recommend you retake it.

My personal philosophy is to retake anything under a 700.
