im a sophomore student in some community college in illinois.. i have been looking at pepperdine, UC- santa barbara, UC- santa cruz, UC- riverside and Univ of Miami as a transfer schools after realizing how ridiculously selective UC- Berkeley is specially for out of state applicants. but the thing is, i still dont know how strong my chances are for getting accepted in pepperdine.
here's my stats:
45 credits completed (upon applying)
3.94 gpa
16 credits in progress
njcaa tennis varsity
4 year ncaa volleyball player
attended a catholic high school.. thus giving me no hard time to possibly adapt to pepperdine's "so-called" overly religious appeal..
dean's and president's lister
phi theta kappa honor society member
did lots of community service stuff: enrichment program for the blind, habitat for humanity volunteer, special education volunteer teacher, taught impoverished children somewhere in the philippines
voted vice president and public relations officer of the class all through high school
national debate member
kiwanis club
yamaha music masters circle (piano)
*as for my recommendation letters and essay, i dont think ill run into any trouble with those.
i will be applying soon and am absolutely troubled by the fact that i dont have any idea yet whatsoever about my chances of getting in those schools mentioned.. i hope some helpful soul out there will give me an insight of where i stand as an applicant with regards to my stats... thanks. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT. tell me my chances... which ones are reach, match, etc.
THANKS.. I'LL GIVE COOKIES TO THOSE KIND ENOUGH TO HELP EVALUATE MY CHANCES..

Just out of curiosity, why settle for those schools? although they hav undoubtedly good reps as UC's, I'm sure you've got a super shot at San Diego or Davis. Not interested?

ninaBanina, thanks for that encouraging reply.. see the thing im worried about is the fact that im an out of state student.. and from what i heard, the UC's deny (most) applications from non- california residents. do you think i still have a chance? i really want to go into the UC system but i guess no one is fit for the part, especially if your not from cali. help..

I think your GPA is amazing, and being out of state shouldn't be what makes or breaks you. Just APPLY. Don't assume they won't accept you, because personally I think you're a super applicant. Your EC's are good too. Just don't be underconfident, apply anyway. UCB won't reject you just because you're out of state.

you think, nina? cuz ive seen the application stats of UC's and they have an awful acceptance rate for non resident applicants.. that freaks me out. i do believe i can excell in a UC school but if i cant even get through the application process because im from illinois, how can i prove my worth? in your opinion, which UC schools would consider me?

Your GPA is well above the average accepted applicant for UCB, so yeah go for it :)

you think i'll make it? yipee.. but i still think my out of state condition will do MOST of the damage. you think it will cut my chances short? cuz if cali residents have a hard time getting into the UC system then what more for a non resident like me?..

UCLA's avg. admitted GPA for out of staters for CAS was 3.6-something, with a 12%-something acceptance rate I believe (I'm probably a bit off). So yeah, UCB will probably be harder, but you've got as good a shot as anyone else.

Best of luck :)

THANKS.. whoosh, such a relief to hear that. good luck with your aspirations too.. whatever they may be..
