How do I succeed in this?

Oh here we go again.

You take the PSAT as a Junior and score high enough.

No, I’m totally serious.

Any insightful input/tips/advice would be helpful

Just whatever you did to study for the SAT will be sufficient. The PSAT is just a shorter SAT without an essay.

hahaha wait aren’t you the person who needed a 2400 and created huge debate on that?

anyways kudos to you for aiming high. basically, depending on what state you live in, you need to probably get a 239 to a 240 on the PSAT. If you do, then the people will send you an app for the national merit scholarship. you fill out the app, write essays, send in supplementary stuff, etc. mini college app sent out and maybe you’ll get picked

good luck xD

thanks, yeah that was me.

But whats the difference between being commended and becoming a semifinalist?

Study for the PSAT/SAT, and do well on the PSAT.

Commended = You got a good score compared to a nationwide standard but you aren’t in the running for finalist.

Semi-Finalist = You hit the 99th percentile in your state. You get to compete for a Finalist scholarship if you are a semi-finalist.

The score required for Semi-Finalist is different for every state. The more populous ones require higher scores. All I know is that my score of 219 was in the 99th percentile for Arizona.

Moving to Wyoming would help.

Hopefully my 220 is in the 99th perentile of Illinois, then…

For some reason, I can’t stop myself from ■■■■■■■■ the CC forums. I guess I just like wasting my time..

The easiest way is to study for that 2400 on the SAT. Then move to Wyoming where you can get a 150 or so and still get national merit. But thats still a stretch I believe. They don’t call it National Merit for nothing you know.

Is your next thread going to be titled “I need to get into Princeton”?

Mabye, but I’d rather go to hard.

^Harvard^^

Harvard

You do realize that Harvard, as a general rule of thumb, only accepts intelligent people. They may accept the occasional outstanding athlete or so who is only “above average,” but that’s because they have other talents.

If only complaining and whining were talents; you would be such a shoo in it wouldn’t even be funny, maybe even getting accepted with your SAT scores.

Like I said, constructive criticism, tips, advice, etc. are welcome.

“How do I succeed in this?”

“^Harvard^^”

“Harvard”

Where was it that you said only constructive criticism?
I gave you my insightful input on your chances at harvard.

Its just that I, like most others here, cannot stand it when people ask stupid questions. If you have to ask how to get 2400, you won’t get it. If you have to ask how to get National Merit, you won’t get it. You should know what you have to do. Stop being stupid and wasting your time. And more importantly stop wasting our time.

What did you want us to tell you? The magical formula to pass? As I have told you already, the secret to passing the test is to bubble in every single answer choice so that you will always get the correct one. Now go shut up and enjoy the 240 that you can get with that strategy.

Wow, you’ve created another thread like the “How to get a 2400”.
CLEARLY, the only way for you to become a NMS is if you score high enough.

Now you’re asking how you can score high enough?
Obviously by STUDYING.

What other reason could there be besides studying?
Oh, get as many right as possible, which requires studying (OMG).

Seriously, if you don’t know how to study why don’t you reword your sentence as “What books should I get to prepare me for the SAT/PSAT?”.
By the way, that topic has already been posted about. Try using the search button.

And on the topic, I don’t think a lot of the people who got into the Ivy Leagues posted on the CC asking how to obtain 2400s and NMS.
