I am a sophomore at Cornell. Last winter break I went home and did absolutely nothing but watch TV, play video games, and hang out with friends. As fun and relaxing as it was, I want to do something productive this winter break (preferably away from home, which is Binghamton, NY). I'd like to do something like a service learning trip, internship, etc. Any specific programs I should look into? Thanks.

there is an extern program you could do since you’re a sophomore. I think you might have needed to take action on that already, though, and if you want to get away from your hometown you’ll have to pay. here’s a link though: [Cornell Extern Program Application Guidelines](<a href=“Career Services | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University”>Career Services | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University)

if you can deal with staying home, you could look at the selection of winter session distance learning courses. I’m considering the option myself. I could feel productive without giving up all my hang-out time.
