what tips can you guys give me to help me get a 30? I have been reading ACT practice books and taking practice tests, and seem to be doing better in the parts that I did bad in last time(math, english).

what tips can you give? Im supposed to take it in about a month.

For English, if you're not good with grammar, I'd suggest looking over a grammar book or just practicing problems. Sparknotes.com has free practice tests that you can take and number2.com has step by step help for each subject. It has a review sesction and practice problems. :)

Math- review formulas; if you've done pre-calc, then it should be easy

Reading- DON'T read the passages! Read the questions, underline key words and phrases, and then go find them in the texts. Saves time!

Science- use the charts. On the October test, it was all charts. The questions are pulled directly from the charts. I promise.

I hope that helps. Still need advice? PM me.

Read the passges. You'd be foolish not to. The only single strategy you need to follow is to mark your answers in group ( 10 at a time, instead of 1 at a time). You'll save half the time it takes for marking this way. This gives many people the extra few minutes they need in order to obtain those few extra more points.

Just do practice tests so you know the timing. I took it twice, and got a 33 without practice the second time just because I knew the timing and how to pace myself.

I took zero practice tests and got a 34. Here are the two most important strategies IMO:

Reading - Do not read through the articles thoroughly, you must speed read but pay close attention at the same time
Science - DO NOT read the information; read only the graphs. EXCEPT, on the last science section (I think it's always the last section anyway) you must read the information because this part of the science section is more like a reading set of questions w/ very few question related to the chart you will get.

those tips are good. do familiarize yourself with timing. that should be the number 1 tip. just get some practice tests and find what works for you

english-read everything... sound out things in your head (that's what I do, atleast!)
math-keep an eye on time
reading- skim and underline stuff... read it, but FAST. Then go to the questions
science- I skimmed/read all the passages and got a 36. I went SUPER fast haha

read the READING section! it makes it much easier. if u read closely, the questions will be easier and therefore faster. also for science, READ all of the information, just as in reading the questions will be a lot more straightforward and you will not have to hunt for answers! PS i got a 36 in both sections in the Oct. ACT using those strategies. and to show that it does work, in feb. i got a 26 in science by skimming.

Thanks for the advice. Ive already taken it once, but got a 24 because of math and english. I do better on reading by not reading, just going to the questions and doing it that way. I did good on science. I just needed to work on my math and english. I dont think I did good on Math because I had to guess a lot because I forgot a lot of the equations. The english part screwed me over because of the trick questions and I didnt read directions.
