I need to get out of AP LIT

I'm a senior this year and this class is HELL for me; it doesn't help that I have a teacher that is new to AP and is very strict because she wants to prove herself against the other AP teachers.

I tried dropping this class at the beginning of the year, but my counselor said that they would not let me drop because the school is very strict with the drop policy for AP, especially since I took AP LANGUAGE last year (took the class and did fine in it, didn't take the AP exam).

It is now about 5/6 weeks into the semester and I'm really hating myself and this class.

It is a LOT of work, it is VERY CHALLENGING for me, it takes up a LOT of time. I already have two other AP classes to worry about this year (Psych and Euro History) and Honors Discrete Math and Stats, so my schedule is not light.

I spend so much time doing work for this class and I really do try hard, but I'm at a C and that likely will only go down.

It is a huge strain on my mentality, it doesn't help that I'm a perfectionist and have insomnia, therefore I'm up till like 1-2 am every night and wake up feeling like crap at 6 am and for the rest of the day. I don't have a social life, friends, and I don't have time for any fun stuff/hobbies/clubs/sports.

I NEED TO DROP.

Can I have my family doctor write a note about my sleeping problems and anxiety for this class? It would not be a lie.
Or is there anything else I could try? :(

you could try to stay with the class? yeah, i wouldn’t want to, either.

so a doctor’s note sounds rather fool proof

I’m a little wary of people who claim medical problems because of AP classes… how are your fellow AP Lit students faring? I’ve had classes that were extremely tough and teachers that were either really hard/apathetic/or terrible - sometimes a combination, sometimes all three, and although I lost sleep staying up all night doing homework, I don’t think it caused psychological damage…

I don’t doubt that you’re under a lot of strain - but maybe its an underlying problem and not AP Literature?

either way, she wants to drop the class because of excess stress

and, hey, if you tell your doctor that you’re having anxiety, and the class makes it worse, the doctor will most likely write something for your guidance counselor. i mean, if you have no other way, that seems best.
