I need to improve my score my a lot in 3 months! Help from the community needed plz!

Well I took the sat for the first time in June of this year, and got a score of 1740. I want to get at least a 2000, if not than at least a 1920. I have the updated new edition of the Blue Book, Barrons 2400, and Purple Book of Practic SATs by Kaplan. In addition I have access to kaplans online coursework beacuse I am enrolled in the class for the summer which ends in 2 weeks by the way. Anyways with these books where should I start and how do I go about my study plan. When and how to take practice tests? And from which books? Advice from this community would be greatly appreciated since I hear a lot of you are quite smart, so please help a guy out. The second time I take the test is on October 1st by the way.

Sorry for some minor spellng mistakes I’m typing with an iPod touh keyboard

I’m in the same situation as you  I’m trying to prepare in 3 months as well.
So far, this is what I’m doing:
Critical Reading:
My problem area!!

 • Reading atleast 10+ books this summer. (2 required, 3+ SAT recommended books, the rest is other books I’ve always wanted to read)
 • Studying roots words. This actually really helps.
 • Studying the top vocab for the SAT as well. (they’re many free guides on quizlet. Just type in SAT vocab, or a specific popular list you heard of (The Hit Parade, Direct Hits, Top 1000 words, etc)).
 • Reading from NY times.

Math:
Well math is my strong area. The highest I’ve ever reached is 700, but I want to get higher.

 • Practice from the SAT Math 800 book. I forgot the name, but it’s helpful.
 • Practice a question atleast 3 times a week.
 • Go over the basics (algebra, geometry, word problems, etc).

Writing:

 • Soon, I’m planning on buying a SAT Grammer book.
 • Reading would also help in this area.

Yeah… that’s what I’m planning on doing for the next couple of months. I’ve tried everything else - SAT prep, and even my school had an SAT prep for 2 weeks. I’ve learned that working individually and being my own motivator is better for me.

Check out the post from 7-4 on SAT study schedule. I posted a very detailed 12-week schedule that Vicki from PowerScore shared with me. I think it’s a great outline. You can always supplement with the other resources you have collected.
