I just took a practice SAT (a real one too) and I only scored a 2090 - 2240 (depending on how my essay is from 0 - 12).

I want a 2300+ when taking the SAT this January. What can I do to improve? My scores are:

730 CR
710 M
650 - 800 W (I'm pretty sure it's closer to 650 than 800 because my essay sucked so much I'm not going to post it online and I haven't even bothered to read/grade it yet).

Is it normal to score poorly on practice tests and do better on the real thing? I did much better on the PSAT than on this practice SAT !

Unless the practice tests are from College Board, they wouldn’t accurately depict what the SAT is like. They wouldn’t have the kinds of “tricks” that the real test makers throw in to make the SAT hard, so your score range may not correlate to what you’d really get on the SAT. But, at least you have an idea of where you are.

Since you only have a few days to prepare, with your current score range, a 2300+ is unlikely; your best bet is to work on your vocabulary (for the Critical Reading sections), do some more math problems, and write more timed practice essays.

You can definitely bring up the M. I know you can score an 800 on Math. Don’t be discouraged! That’s 90 points right there for you. I’m guessing you got 1-2 wrong for Writing. 2 wrong with even an 8 essay should yield a little above 700. You’re closer to 2300 than you think you are. I can assure you that you’ll do well on the SAT. Don’t worry too much. You can always retake the SAT.

Okay so I have almost the exact same scores in math and I wouldn’t suggest improving that, BECAUSE IT IS HARD. Why? You get one wrong on the math section, and BAM you get a 75.

So I suggest working on the writing. A lot of people said it is formulaic. Also a lot of people suggest Barron Writing Workbook and Sparknotes 7 mistakes (or something, sorry I just woke up -__-’’). Having like a 70 points boost on writing will not only increase your score, but also equalize all the scores.
