I need to know what you think!! Please help!

Do you think I can get into Brown ED? What do you think about my chances at the others? Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated! Thanks so much! (my school doesn't rank, and I am going to take 2 more SAT 2s (Spanish and Lit) so the Math I score hopefully won't affect me too much (not my strong suit nor an interest of mine - not really sure why I took it - ??mom told me to and I was foolish enough to listen??)

Desired College Characteristics:
Location type:
Size: Medium (5,000 - 10,000)

Area: East Coast
Importance of cost: Very important

I'm not really applying to ALL of those schools - I'm deciding amongst them, so please don't think I'm a freak!

Out of those colleges listed I would say the following are safeties,

Boston
Dickinson
Emory
Georgetown
Indiana
Syracuse
Wisconsin
Wesleyan

Although your stats are amazing you can never be to sure with the top schools you put down

^Georgetown is definitely not a safety. Its probably the hardest school to get into on that list besides Columbia, Brown, and Penn. Georgetown, Northwestern, Columbia, Penn, and Brown would be reaches. Johns Hopkins Emory, Tufts, and Wesleyan: Mid-High matches. The rest are safer (especially Syracuse, Skidmore, Wisconsin, and Dickinson).

What do you think about my chances for Brown ED? Is it worth a shot? Thanks so much for your help!

bumping up......

bump again

Your SAT Math and CR scores right now just put you in the lower portion of Brown's 25-75% range. ( http://members.ucan-network.org/pdf/u-can-130.pdf )

If you can get that score higher and nearer the upper range, then your chances for Brown ED will improve, because your GPA looks outstanding, and your ECs are solid. Good luck, london.

bumping up....

I don't think Emory is a safety either. I think you should try to improve your SAT I scores and take a few more SAT IIs, particularly ones you are good at. Good ECs. I would suggest picking one Ivy for an ED to increase chances (Brown, maybe?)

I wouldn't worry so much about the math unless you're silly enough to say you want to major in math or a math-intensive subject. Maybe your EC's are as interesting as the list implies. Maybe you can write killer essays that show how you would be an asset. Interviews are relatively unimportant at Brown, so your shining personality won't help unless it shines through on paper.Nobody is a likely ED admit at Brown, but I think you are potentially a strong candidate. If you're a recruitable athlete, a very strong candidate...

The 1st question is, are you sure about Brown? Visit. Talk to people. It's a unique (and I would say wonderful) place, but it's not for everybody. Very different from Northwestern or JHU or GW or -- many of the other places on your list!

You need to visit a few of these places. I'd also suggest looking at a couple of LACs (there are plenty of really good ones in the northeast that you could easily tie in with a visit to Brown).

Good luck!

Wow, you people are optimistic! Honestly, I'd have to say without seriously raising your SATs, I think an ivy isn't going to happen. Georgetown and Wes are worth a try but are longshots.

Oh, you're probably a '13 rather than a '12 ;) And what's
your rank? That's pretty important (as in, very)

Also, you really want to raise you SAT Math II Score. You should hit at least a 750+ (Seeing how the curve is distributed)

My school doesn't rank, but I'm definitely in the top 15% of my class, if not top 10%. I don't know how much this helps, but I'm a legacy at Cornell.

I'm really interested in Journalism (editor of school paper next year; tri-editor/tri-founder of alternative school publication; accepted into Northwestern's NHSI for j'lism but declined; summer internship at local paper) and International Relations (I take Spanish Honors and French Honors; French Honor Society; 2 summers ago lived with a family for a month in Spain; this summer hosting a French exchange student for 3 weeks). I think I've put in a lot of effort and time into the areas of studies that I'm interested in, and I'm hoping I can convey that passion in apps.

A little bit more on my Academics:
Only 1 B+ so far, in Sophomore English Honors. I'll probably get at least one more B+ this year, in Physics. The rest are A's. Pretty demanding schedule, w/ 2 languages and journalism, but not all honors/ap's (no accelerated classes for precalc or physics).

Any other thoughts?

I still think you have a shot based the essays and how you pull everything together in the application. I will agree with others that your SAT and GPA aren't going to do it on their own; further, there are TONS of applicants with similar stats who didn't make it into Brown, ED or RD.

I'm interested in how Dickinson and Skidmore made the list over all other LACs -- these are good schools, but there's a lot of others vaguely in the range between these and the Ivies. And I still maintain that all those mid-sized schools on your list are very different.

Try to visit a handful, and then use the ones you like best as comparison for other choices. You're all over the ballpark now.

bump...............

FORD - I visited Dickinson and was impressed by the study abroad program there. I haven't seen Skidmore yet, but am planning to go late in the summer for a visit. In general, I am more interested in a larger school (although not necessarily as big as Indiana and Wisconsin, which are also on my list for now). I have thought about some of the other LACs, but I'm not sure.....do you have any particular suggestions? I really, really loved Brown when I visited it (twice so far), but I know it is a huge reach for me. I can't decide if it's worth it for me to go for it or not......

bumping up.....

Brown is quirky so it's always worth a try. ED doesn't really help if you're not a legacy/athlete. If you can up your SAT a bit things look much better.

bump..............................
