I need to transfer to UCI from UCR. Please Help Me! :(

Hello guys,

I'm a sophmore at UCR, and my life has been an absolute disaster. I have a 2.8 GPA, but not due to negligence. My grandmother who lives in Anaheim is very ill, and last year I chose to take care of her--that plus a 25 hr week job and driving from Anaheim to Riverside to my job every day has given me no breathing room.

I feel that moving to UCI will make my life a little less hectic. Anaheim and Irvine are fairly close, and I could try and find a closer job.

Now, as I said before, my GPA is a 2.8 (Philosophy major), and I just know I will get rejected.

I would appreciate some insight to what I should expect. I was very embarrassed to post my GPA, since most of you are brilliant. :(

Thanks

That’s pretty harsh stuff. Hope things will get better.
In my opinion, I think you should hand some of your responsibilities (grandmother/job) to someone else in your immediate family. I don’t think it’s wise to make your GPA suffer because it will have a significantly negative impact on your future.

You could drop out from UCI, go to community college for a year, then transfer to UCI.
You will save money and you will be able to bring up your GPA. Community colleges are much easier than UCR, so I don’t think it would be a bad idea to transfer from a community college because California Community College students get priority in UC admissions.
Your incentives for doing so are: GPA, money, transfer priority, time flexibility, less stress.

You should talk to a counselor about this issue. Hope I helped out.
