I need your guys' advice

I just finished my first semester of freshman yr at csuf and was hoping to transfer to schools such as USC stanford, pomona college, and asu!! However, after my first semester, I got a pretty low GPA (3.01) and knowing that won't get me ANYWHERE!!! I was wondering if I should stay at csuf for another year and then transfer my junior yr hopefully with a better gpa to top universities like ivies or ucb or ucla/usc or should I transfer to asu or cp pomona or sdsu and then transfer from there on with a better gpa?? In other words, will staying at csuf help or will moving to another university raise eyebrows to ivy admissions officers.

Also, you should know that I really really want to go away from home in oc, although i love my family, it is a struggle to study with them and come home every wknd and be nagged and yelled at and I believe if I didn't do this, then I would be able to study better and get a better GPA.

Soooo, what do you guys think, and please be as honest as possible no hurt feelings!!

Those are some pretty prestigious schools and 4 year transfer students do not get priority. And your GPA is super low. I would be a little more realistic with the schools you want to transfer to. If this is your first semester, I would drop out and go to your local CC. It will be easy to get a high GPA and you’ll have a higher chance of getting accepted to SDSU, UCLA and Cal.

It is a good GPA. You should not transfer to CC because you got GPA of 3.01 in one semester.

Mermaker is right because it simply doesn’t make sense to transfer from a CSU to a top UC. It’s very difficult to transfer because CC has #1 priority. In fact, I have yet to hear of anyone who has transferred from a CSU to UC Berkeley or UCLA successfully (or maybe I haven’t looked hard enough).

Transferring to the ivies is extremely difficult. Some are more transfer friendly (cornell) while others are next to impossible (Harvard which accepted 15 students out of 1400+). Stanford will be just as difficult. Transfer rate is around 1-2%. Usually these transfer students have 3.9/4.0s with excellent ECs and are the cream of the crop.

ASU, Pomona, and USC are more realistic but still competitive. Also transferring another two times does nothing but cause more confusion. Your CSUF GPA will always follow you around wherever you transfer to. You can’t avoid it. IMO if you want to go to a top UC, drop out, attend a local CC, and you will need stellar grades with good ECs. It cannot be stressed enough that community college students get #1 priority over everyone. Even freshman.
