So here's the deal: I'm currently in the process of applying to be a tour guide. I really want to show prospective students (like you!) how amazing Stanford is. I love it here and can't imagine being as happy anywhere else. Talking about Stanford to profros is one of my favorite things ever.

So where do you come in? Tomorrow I have a group interview. I figure they might ask questions that profros would ask on tours. What sort of questions would you guys ask? What potentially delicate/difficult questions might you ask about?

Thanks! You guys are the best.

Haha, marlgirl, if you could only show them all of these amazingly informative and detailed posts you make on CC, they'd let you be a tour guide in no time.

As far as questions go...here are some ideas

1) Be prepared to talk about drinking in a realistic manner (to a mixed group of parents and profros present)
2) Be able to explain the ins and outs of Stanford's admissions process without sounding condescending
3) Be able to talk fluently about Stanford life without talking in abbreviations
4) Umm...describe the situation with the Tree (hey, it was national exposure for Stanford) in a humorous yet not completely negative way
5) Devise some way to answer questions profros may have about directly comparing Stanford to an Ivy (ie, why should I go to Stanford over Yale). I don't necessarily mean that you should research the Ivies, but just to be able to approach the question in way that is both positive towards Stanford and not openly derrogatory towards the other school. I would imagine a lot of profros visiting Stanford may be facing this type of decision and would really like some straightforward insight on this topic.
6) Be able to explain the housing system. As a SCEA admit who caught bits and pieces of CC threads about housing, I was pretty confused about it for a while. In fact, I still am. But I guess that's what Admit Weekend's for =

1)Where else did you apply?
2) What would the admissions office likely not tell us about Stanford that would be important for us to know?
3) What don't you like about Stanford?

Good luck marlgirl (though you've been doing such a great job on CC answering Stanford-related questions that I doubt you'll have a problem). lol. It's really funny because I just spent the entire day touring Stanford (public walking tour at 11, private tour at 1 after the golf cart tour got cancelled, and the punt tour at 2).

Anyways, here are some of the (many) questions that I remember from today, both from myself and other students:

1) Can you tell me a little bit more about SLE? Is it as rigorous as everyone says it is?
2) How big is the sorority/frat scene on campus?
3) What's the admissions rate for Stanford undergrads into any med school? (nobody knew the answer to this one)
4) Would you recommend an all-frosh dorm or an four-classes dorm?
5) Would you recommend doing a major and a minor?
6) What's your opinion of the IHUM and PWR classes?
7) Does SCEA increase your chances of getting in?
8) Does Stanford really look at your essays more than your ECs?
9) Is it feasible to play a Division 1 sport and still double major?
10) Can you talk a little bit more about coterm?
11) Can you explain the process for upperclassmen housing? (every tour I went to touched on this)
12) What's the dorm situation like?

There were so many more, but the list would get to be in the 100s. :] I find it funny because I most likely read your name outside of the Memorial Auditorium this morning while waiting for my tour. Being a tour guide sounds like so much fun though (just watch out for those pesty bikes while walking backwards!).

Thanks! I think the interview went well. Everyone there would make an amazing tour guide though, so I feel a lot of it is just luck at this point. crosses fingers
