Hey everyone, how are you guys doing? It's been a while since I posted on CC. Today at my high school in NY, a representative from Harvard College came to speak to us about the college and admissions process. I'm in 11th grade by the way, and I still have a year till I apply, but I just wanted to make some questions clear. What should I aim to get on the SAT/ACT? What should I aim to get on my AP tests? How well should my rank/GPA be? How well does my transcript have to be as in grades (i'm taking the hardest curriculum offered)? And any other tips to help me out would be grateful!
About me: I am very dedicated in my community, interning/volunteering at a local hospital in the ER and interning/volunteering with my state senator (a very coveted position). I own my own company that builds, modifies, and repairs computers and spyware/adware/virus bases removal. I love to make music (TECHNO) on the side and am going to be releasing an album soon. I was in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2006 and 2007 and came in 22nd and 3rd place, respectively. I am president of my school's FBLA team. And my grades in all subjects (all ap's) is 95+. I do a lot of EC stuff outside of school and in school like martial arts, FBLA, science olympiad, mock trial, Model United Nations, French Club, French Honor Society, Math team, Math Honor Society, History Club, and others that I can't remember off the top of my head. I also have been on Varsity Tennis for 3 years (including this coming year - Spring) and am starting Varsity Track this year.
Do I have a decent chance of getting in, provided my SAT/ACT scores and SAT II scores are good?

EVERYONE is a reach to get into Harvard. You need to take the hardest course work, get the best grades, do fantastic on the SAT/ACT, and even then you are are reach. Don’t fall in love with one school. If you want to apply to Harvard, great, but look at other schools as well.

I think you may want to guard your privacy a little more.
There are going to be plenty of schools you’ll be interested in as you make your application list over the next year.

Even for students with perfect stats and great hooks, Harvard is a reach. There are no guarantees.

That said, all you can do is your best. Prepare for the best SAT & AP scores. Also take the ACT. Take the most challenging curriculum your school offers.

Even if you don’t get into Harvard, with great stats there are many other great schools that you can go to.

siliconvalleymom, what’s there to guard here? and yea harvard is just one of those dream schools. i am obviously looking at other schools to fall back on.
