I need your opinions for a prospective Transfer Student.

Ross transfer rates are incredibly low anyways.

Ross? What is that?

Ross school of business at University of Michigan, which has a low acceptance rate for transfers compared to Georgetown’s McDonough.

Oh, glad you cleared that up. I’m just used to referring to the schools as a whole, not really aware of their individual schools within the university.

@benjskim No problem I had the same problem last year when i was transferring. I will be more than happy to help.

I understand, benjskim, just saying that transferring to the business school at UMich is very difficult.

I got you, thanks a lot guys. I mean even though I’m looking at schools that are strong in economics, I don’t want to forgo the possibility of changing majors (in case I have a change of heart), and I think that’s why I’m limiting myself to these top schools with great bases in a lot of programs. Michigan, along with it’s difficult transfer percentage, never appealed to me.

But I do love politics, and I do love economics, which is why I’m hoping those schools I mentioned above will fit me (if I manage to get in).

Thanks again for all your help guys. Please feel free to add in more things I should keep in mind.

Another question to you guys.

In my class where I got a B+, my teacher told me today that my 88.4% was the 5th highest in a class of 80. I know this doesn’t justify the fact that I got a B+, but would explaining the details work in my favor? Or would this not even matter at all?

You mean writing that in your essay? I’m not sure what you can do is get a recommendation from that teacher. Then it shows how you have demonstrated a great effort.

Oh, I didn’t mean that I would put it in my essay. But a recommendation from him would be useless because he didn’t even make an effort to get to know the students, he didn’t even know who I was even though I was the only one asking questions in his class.

I don"t think one B+ is really bad and should not be detrimental to your admission. it would not help to ask and see what he writes and explain why you need his help. Look over the recommendation and if it is no good then dont use it.

Well, my math and history teacher have already offered to write me recommendations. They know me pretty well as a person and a student. Wouldn’t you say that their recommendation would be a lot more useful than a teacher that doesn’t even know my name?

Well of course. I was just suggesting it if you since you were concerned about your B+. Personally, I used close professors that knew me very well, so i think you should be fine

For the common app essay, should I treat it as a personal statement, or be direct in just simply answering the questions??

Do both. Be direct so that you don’t give the adcoms a headache in trying to figure out what your essay means. However, don’t be so direct that the personal statement fails to show your skills & effort. You already have the experience of writing essays as an incoming freshman under your belt, so it should be easier this time around.
