All right, hello. My name is Max and I was curious about a couple of things concerning the dorms at UMCP. I only had two questions.

1 - Are dorms gender-neutral? Will incoming freshmen have the option for a gender-neutral dorm to live in?

2 - I had an interesting scenario. Say, for instance, someone goes to UMCP for their first year, and roomed with someone. Would they have the opportunity to switch roommates a year later? I know this is a different sort of question, but it's something I've had to think about for a while with no answer as of yet.

Thanks.

There is only one gender-exclusive dorm I know of and its girls only. Most other dorms split each floor of the dorm, boys on one half and girls on the other. Don’t worry though, most girls don’t bite :)

You can switch roommates easily at the end of each year. You can even do it after a semester, but that is a bit harder.

As far as I know, UMD still does not offer gender neutral housing.

Cecil Hall is a three-story, traditional style, female hall that accommodates approximately 87 residents

^ from [Residence Halls - South Hill Community - Cecil Hall](http://www.resnet.umd.edu/residence_halls/south_hill/cecil/)

That’s not gender-neutral. Gender-neutral means that a student can choose a roommate of any gender to accomodate personal circumstances such as gender/lgbt identity.

Completely messed that one up. My bad.

I think ohimtired is right.

Gender-neutral isn’t offered in the dorms, but it is offered in commons (and I think courtyards too), which is available to juniors and seniors only.
