I only took foreign language for 2 years... will I will be a potential candidate for admission?

I only took two years of Latin because my school didn’t offer a third year. I heard that stony brook requires you to have at least 3 years of foreign language in order to be a good potential candidate in getting admitted… I’m still a junior, so should I take one more language class next year (it wouldn’t be Latin, it’d be beginner Spanish/japanese/etc) or is it okay?

Ughh I hate typos. I meant the question to be “…will I still be a potential candidate for admission?” Sorry for that

Call stony brook and ask. Also ask your guidance counselor. Take it seriously. I know someone who didn’t take enough language and could not get the admit to their state flagship university because of having insufficient foreign language.
Good job researching this early!

When they say 3 years they mean level 3. Make SURE your GC indicates in the school profile that only 2 years of Latin are offered. Dononxludebot on your bragsheet’ (‘took 2 years of Latin because no upper level was offered’). Colleges don’t dock students for not taking classes their school doesn’t offer.

Took Level 3 Spanish and was admitted. Only took two years of a foreign language, since Spanish I was finished throughout middle school

^ as indicated on post #3, colleges count level achieved. So you had level 3 (= 3 years).
Op is in another situation: classes not offered at his/her school.

I took Latin for 2 years, and I was admitted, so I don’t think it counts as a major factor in getting accepted or not.
