I applied to NU early decision. All this time I thought two subject tests were enough for non-ivy schools :( NU website says it "recommends" three and high subject test scores will offset low SAT 1 scores. (I gotta say, subject tests are def. not the strong points in my apps.) However, I have a 2250 for my SAT1. Will it cover up for my subject tests? :/ Thanks in advance!

Subject tests can only help your app at NU as long as theyre above 700. If theyre below 700, they probably wont even matter.

I don’t think you should worry so much.

How much it will hurt you, probably depends on wich major you plan to take.

As for me, I want to get into medill and have not taken any subject tests :P

rm1234, the two subject tests are both fortunately above 700… haha :S
bollkollboll, I want to major in psychology/econ. so hopefully two is okay :/

Go standby for another test this weekend. Scores will be back before decisions are sent, right? If it’s a great score…maybe you can send them an update. MAYBE it will get there before they’ve made their final decision. ??

Two SAT II’s is fine - my son was admitted ED two years ago with the ACT plus two SAT II’s. He called NU admissions to ask whether he should take a third SAT II, and was told that submitting only two SAT II’s “will not hurt your application in any way”. You should call NU Admissions to confirm that is still their approach. I suspect it is.

jrpar, hope it goes the same for me I should check with NU soon. Thanks!

Many people get into NU without any subject tests. It shouldn’t be a major concern, especially with a solid SAT score and two nice SAT II scores. =)
