I plagiarized a little on my essay.

Why would you even reveal this on an online forum, yet reassure yourself by telling everybody that the essay has passed “turnitin” type programs?

Smells like a ■■■■■ to me.

You just spent more time double checking that you wouldn’t get caught stealing someone else’s work than it would have taken to do your own. Great priorities.

Man…the least you could do was rephrase the sentence in a different way but still convey the same meaning…not stealing the whole solid sentence : /

Guys, I don’t think any of you understand. I technically just stole around 4-5 sentences but reworded them so that no websites/google could detect it. Thus, I actually checked online and it came out to be 0 plagiarism. Also, since I was really paranoid/scared, I took each sentence in my essay and pasted it on search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc.) and nothing came out, except random websites. I’m really sorry if I seemed like a jerk but I’m trying to feel positive about this even though I did something wrong. Also, just taking small doses shouldn’t hurt. Most people plagiarize a bit on their essays too, so all I’m asking is if I’m going to be fine. I did rephrase the sentences with a different context; however, I made it convey a similar meaning. Do you guys think I’ll be fine?

What do you mean, most people plagiarize on their essays? I don’t know ANYBODY that has, and I sure as heck never would. How are you supposed to feel proud of something that isn’t your own original work?

did you put it through google?

So, studied4sat, why don’t you pose this same question tomorrow to the church youth group that you’re vice president of? See what they think about lying and dishonesty. It could make for a good discussion on situational ethics vs absolute right and wrong. Maybe you’ll learn something that you can employ in your prospective career in finance and accounting.

I hope you get caught like SAT cheaters. People like me work hard honestly on essays. I can’t wait to hear at your trial when you’re older, “I only lied on the stock reports a little! Everyone does it!”

Ummm…most people DON’T plagiarize their essays. Kids work for weeks and months on theirs. There is a thing called a moral compass. You need to get one. It’s really a shame that after all of these comments, you still feel that what you did is okay. And, it’s really sad, because you really could get into big trouble down the road for something like this and you keep convincing yourself that it is okay.

Also, I noticed your screen name “studied4sat”. I don’t know if I believe that.

um…

I agree with Saintfan – plenty of hypocrisy there.

A college essay is supposed to show admissions WHO YOU ARE without knowing you…so stealing “just a little” is showing them a lie about you, even if they don’t know it. YOU KNOW IT, though, and should be ashamed and not be looking for strangers to tell you it’s no big deal. You shouldn’t have to run your own essay through turnitin and hope nothing happens. It should have come from your mind and your heart. Quit trying to justify your actions. Pathetic.
