I pledge allegiance....

^^And why is it necessary? Does it do some great national action that I'm not aware of? And what does being a terrorist have to do with it?

umm... next post, try not to embarrass yourself, sastarasta.

zipdrivekid is the man.

hell yeah I AM.....SMALLZ IS A PUSSYCAT AND REFUSES TO EVEN TALK TO ME ANYMORE! I bet hes going to try and threaten me next by "reporting" me to the big and bad CC mods. tripperian35..you are my new best friend on this site :)

go zip go!

I think the most American thing one could do is to refuse to say the Pledge or even (gasp!) burn the flag. We're lucky to live in a country where, ideally, dissent is patriotic.

The Pledge is recited every day in our second period (a new NC law this year), but I don't participate because I don't believe it should have "under God" in it.

Which constitutional right is broken by the recitation of the Pledge in public schools? Well, naturally the separation of church and state..

I respect US and stand-up for pledge but I don't say it because I am not treating flag as something I should speak to.

I second leah377, I really like the "freedom" part of the country and am finding myself in place (was living in post-Soviet Ukraine for 12 years) that finally fits my ideas.

the pledge shouldn't be law. it doesn't make you completely liberal and anti-america to not say it either. I'm actually fairly conservative.
pledging to a flag has nothing to do with the country, and God should have nothing to do with the pledge.

Thank you very much. That is basically exactly what I said.

We used to say the pledge in elementary school (in German, when I went to a language immersion school). I liked it, so I can't complain now that it's back.

Coins and dollars have "in God we trust." If you don't want to say the pledge, don't use money. Be consistent, please.

credit cards don't say "God"....

I say the pledge, except I leave out the "under God" and change "for all" to "for some".

and I'm sorry, we kind of have to use the money.

then you must say the pledge

[/quote]

WRONG. You have no legal or contractual obligation to the US Government to say the Pledge of Allegiance.

If you don't want to say the pledge, then don't say it. I don't recite the pledge of allegiance, I don't put my hand on my chest when it's recited, but I do stand up out of respect. Saying the pledge doesn't make you any more patriotic than choosing not to.

Remember: DISSENT IS YOUR FRIEND.

I personally don't say the pledge because I think it's wrong to pledge one's allegiance to an arbitrary, man-made entity, that can (and has been) grossly wrong. I'd much rather pledge allegicance to freedom, liberty, human rights, the qualities that make any nation, including the United States, great.

I do, however, think it's proper to stand during the pledge, just as a matter of respect.

As posted above, I think you could atleast stand during the pledge and show your respect. Honor your country and the freedoms and privileges so many other ppl don't have.

Personally, I stand and put my hand on my chest but don't recite it.

Same here.

I agree with Rapsody. and even though I don't say the pledge or put my hand on my heart I do stand.

The only times I've recited it at my HS so far (I'm a junior) were at a couple of assemblies and in my APUSH class on 9/11/06. Although I'm not a Christian, and I certainly don't agree with the US's policies all the time, I say it, "under God" and all, out of respect (not jingoistic, mind you) for this country.

futurenyustudent...at least you stand up. I feel that people are wandering from the main point of this thread, which is you shouldnt have to say the pledge because its a violation of your rights....which is BS. And im happy to see that youre back smallz, you obviously couldnt handle the heat of the discussion earlier! Is that why you backed off?
