I posted yesterday, but I changed some stuff..

Sorry for being annoying, haha. I posted yesterday, but ever since I've been thinking about other schools I'd possibly want to go to. The main criteria I was looking for were:

Nice campus (although I can't know everything about this just from word of mouth and pictures)
Close to home, but far enough away to make me feel like I'm not still there
A plus would be having a Sports Management program, but I'll take business as a backup.
Relatively easy to get into because of my grade situation

The two schools I've added fit the bill in every one of those. Both are said to have nice campuses, both are not that far away, they have highly acclaimed sports management programs, and they are relatively easy to get into.

Now, the main reason my grades were so horrible, mainly my 7th grade through sophomore years, was because I was diagnosed with severe depression. I had family problems, deaths in the family, etc. that I was dealing with, and I didn't do nearly as well as I wanted to. I no longer deal with the effects of the depression and look forward to getting back on honor roll in my senior year. I'll probably write about this while applying.

Anyway, here are my stats and college list:

Bowling Green

Pepperdine
Penn State-Harrisburg (will try to transfer to PSU-Univ. Park after first year)

Any help would be great, and I'd really like to see how I match up with OU and BGSU. Thanks.

I also figured I'd post my classes with the overall average throughout H.S. (our letter grade system is the standard A, B, C, D, F, no +/-):

I think your GPA is going to shut you out of a lot of places, especially since you got your best grades in nonacademic classes. I'm not familiar with the colleges on your list, except for Pepperdine. You won't get in there.

Well, the Social Studies grades have been there for me, and Geometry I had something like an 85 overall average, so I haven't performed badly in ALL of them.

Sigh, bump.

How does Pepperdine fit in with being close to home? As far as I can tell, you're in the PA area! But your GPA is far too low for Pepperdine, sorry.

I can only tell you about the PSU branch campuses and I think you'll be fine for that. Though if you're going to transfer to the main campus, most spend two years at a branch campus, not one. Also, you're going to need to do better than a 2.4 GPA at PSU to get a chance to transfer to University Park.

As for OU and Bowling Green, your SATs seem to be okay for them (albeit on the low end of their median ranges), but your GPA is going to kill you. Just look at Collegeboard. Bowling Green's class had 8% with GPAs between 2 and 2.49. And OU only had 1% in that same range.

Try and pull those grades up this year, that's all I can say.

I know that most people do transfer after two years, but apparently Univ. Park's business school (the one I want to go to) requires you to apply for transfer after one year. Trust me, I don't plan on repeating my high school grades in college. I'm definitely going to do whatever I can to salvage my future in my senior year.

I have another question also. How much of my senior year grades will they get to see? The first quarter, the first semester, more than that? And also, if my report card looks like this in the first quarter/semester:

P.O.D.: A
Pre-Calc: B
E11: A
E12: A
Spanish II: B
Comp. Programming: A
Health 12: A
Phys. Ed. 12: A

How much will that raise my career GPA? Can I get it up near 2.6/2.7, which would give me a much better chance at Ohio and Bowling Green?

I also checked, and I'm not really in the lower part of the median for SAT scores for Bowling Green. For Math, I'm actually near the top of it, and I'm pretty much right in the middle of Critical Reading.

Well, actually good news for me, I miscalculated my GPA. I went through all of my grades and put them into a GPA calculator, and my GPA is actually 2.51, not 2.4. The 3.14 I had in 10th grade really helped me out. I'll re-post my stats again.

GPA--Unweighted: 2.51

SAT I Math: 530
SAT I Critical Reading: 500
SAT I Writing: 560

EC's

FBLA (12th)
Basketball (9th grade team, JV 11th, Varsity 12th)
Student Council representative (9th and 10th)
Part-time job (From late July-present)
Other odd jobs such as babysitting, lawn mowing, etc.

List:

Ohio
Bowling Green
Towson
Shippensburg
Monmouth
Millersville
Penn State-Harrisburg

I'll use this as a bump, but apparently I didn't get my GPA right again. I went to 5-6 GPA calculator sites and have gotten different numbers at each place. One said it was 2.51, another said 2.37, another 2.45, etc. I'd still probably place it at 2.5 (a 2.4 that would round up).

And also, I've decided that instead of taking the SAT's again, I'm going to try the ACT on September 15th. What is a score that I should aim for there?

Just a bump.

Have you considered community college? It is a cheaper way to try and get your GPA up. 2.5 is low for a lot of schools.

I like the idea of Penn State-Harrisburg, I think if you are able to get in you can also use that opportunity to work on your GPA and transfer to university park.

Apply to all the schools and see what happens.

Good luck

Not a chance of me going to CC. None whatsoever. For anyone else that will post in this thread, please refrain from suggesting that. I'd rather die than go to CC.

Why would u "rather die than go to CC." That may be a good option for you, but in the end it is obviously ur decision. Hopefully, the ACT will work out for you.

Please chance me:

How could I chance you if I'm asking for advice myself?

And no, it's not a good option.

Might as well bump.
