Essays: should be unique, if nothing else, lol. im a good write, so they should be good, im working hard on them.

recs: one should be really good, one should be good, and an additional should hopefully but heart-warming lol

thats it!

I think you have a good shot. Good academics, and average EC's, but if you can make your essays stand out, then it should be fine.

If you do your essays well and your recs are actually good, you have a decent shot.

Note that doing your essays well is about more than the quality of writing. The quality of writing is very helpful, but the content matters. A lot. Otherwise-good applicants unintentionally sabotage their own applications every year with essays that they thought were good that actually weren't.

Also note that a good rec is more than just "This student was a top student who always paid attention in class." But then, you have less control over how your recs turn out.

thanks for the input!
on the topic of essays- must it be math related! i always hear about ppl writing great essays adn getting into MIT when their essays are about numbers.

Must it be math-related? Um.... no. Not by a long shot.

It must be you-related.

If you try to make it math-related when it shouldn't be, you will look like an idiot, and like you expect MIT to be like its stereotypes.

I still have DD's essay on the fridge. It remains there to remind me to stay out of the process. I strongly suggested that her essay not be used because it was emotional not scientific/technical. Her EA admission proved the point. Do what feels right not what others tell you is right. I hope I can remember that during the start up phase of DS's process.

760+780+780 = 2320

lol sorry i meant
740 CR
780 MATH
780 WRITING

TOTAL: 2300

ironically, i want to go to MIT. lol
