<p>Caucasian female in competitive school in PA suburbs. I have a bilateral neural sensory hearing loss, which is something that I'm proud to say I haven't let affect me. I'm thinking of majoring in biological science or something, with the ultimate goal of working in the field of genetics. Of course, I also really, really like international relations, so I'm keeping my options open.</p>

GPA: 4.22 out of 4.33 -- I think it comes out to be, like, an average of 98.</p>

-Science Olympiad (9,10,11,12) - maaaajor time consumption. team captain for 06-07 season, team is really good (placed 5th nationally last year), also have a few national medals in individual events (Genetics) as well as golds at regional and state level
-Physics Olympics (11,12) - regional physics competition, captain, team holds record for most consecutive wins (basically, we kick ass)
-Mu Alpha Theta (11,12) </p>
<p>-"Joe Sestak for Congress" campaign (12) - high school campaign manager for Sestak, who was running for House in a really important race (the guy he displaced was v. powerful Republican -- haha, you can probably tell I'm really proud of that).
-Student government (11,12) - student representative to school board, attended Pennsylvania School Board Association Student Delegate Program etc.
-Various politics/international relations events such as the Close-Up Program (week of seminars in D.C.), Student Government Forum: A Closer Look (hosted by PA state senators), PA Governor's Conference for Women (guest speakers - Madeline Albright and Sandra Day O'Connor)</p>
<p>-Girl Scouts (since K) - two-year troop president, in the process of receiving my Gold Award (highest available honor for senior girl scout, Eagle Scout-ish) which required this 65-hour project. I chose to bring recycling to my 1300+ high school -- which took a lot more than 65 hours and has been a big time commitment in my life lately, considering my principal pretty much put me in charge of designing + implementing the program.
-Eco Club (11, 12) - president this year
-Escort at Women's Center in Philadelphia (12) - escorting women past protestors on Saturday mornings
-Volunteer at Center on Hearing and Deafness (12)
-Peer Mentor Program (11, 12) - students are recommended for being strong role models and we basically help integrate freshmen into the HS environment
-Various societies such as NHS, Spanish Honor Society, Lion's Paw (service society), National Junior Classical League (for Latin), World Language Honors Club</p>

<p>Summers/jobs etc:
After freshman year: employed as salesperson at a refreshment stand at a local park, volunteered about 140 hours tutoring underprivileged teenagers at risk of not passing the PSSAs for math or language arts at nearby HS in impoverished black area that's always on the news for drug busts, gang fights etc.
After sophomore year: salesperson again, 180ish hours (paid) as camp counselor
After junior year: attended PA Governor's School of Excellence for Int'l Studies
After senior year: I was offered a position as a research assistant at a Penn lab working on how 'axon-Schwann cell interactions regulate the development and regeneration of peripheral nerve and the pathogenesis of peripheral neuropathy.' (question - how can I show this on my apps, since I haven't actually done it yet?)</p>
<p>My recommendations should be very good, and I'm pretty happy with my essays. Oh, and I was also nominated for Danforth by my aunt.</p>
