I really don't want to go to college .

I don't want to go to college. I'm not happy with my decision, but I don't think I would have been if I chose a different school. It's not that it's a bad school--I just don't want to go. I don't really want to go anywhere in particular. I don't think college is for me -- at least not right now. I'd rather be a mechanic or artist, maybe a barber. I don't want to be a lawyer, doctor, engineering, banker, or anything of that sort. I just want to continue doing the things I've enjoyed since childhood: drawing and fixing things.

I feel like I'm wasting my time going to college. I'd outright refuse to go this fall if it weren't for the fact that the college is basically free.

sigh

What should I do?

Find a reason to go. Your views on life will change later on, you'll have different values such as a family of your own.

If you can't find a reason, well, then live your life how you've always wanted to.

I don't think community college would be a bad option...a little work would probably give me a good reason to go to college.

Why don't you major in art? Or a more specific art field, like photography or graphic design? You can get a really good job being a graphic designer, and you'd be able to draw and be creative. Not everyone who goes to college wants to be a doctor, lawyer, or engineer.

I'll consider that. Thanks.

I really haven't looked at too many careers in art. I've been told that it's hard to find a job with an art degree.

Dude college is not for everyone do what makes you happy and don't follow society. When you say mechanic do you mean airplanes, auto,or boat? Auto is in demand and they make good money maybe you should find a school or check your fav auto manufactures website and see if they offer anything.

As for being a barber try and open your own shop someday because it would suck to work for someone else.

There are tons of things you can do out in the world with art skills!

You can make good money without a degree the only people who should be getting degrees are the people who need them in order to get a job in the field they want.

College definitely isn't for everyone. It's free but it still feels like a waste of time. My school doesn't even have a respectable art program. I wouldn't hate it. I might enjoy college. I just don't have a reason to attend. I feel like I would be better served going voc tech or to an art school.

I want to be an auto-mechanic, but I'd like to dabble in everything first.

If you want to be an auto mechanic -- the world certainly needs them, and you can make a heck of a good living too -- look into how people become auto mechanics and just do that. I'm assuming you're young; get a head-start. Perhaps a local auto body shop will take you on as an apprentice. Maybe you could work there for a few years before opening up your own shop.

you could always go to college for a year, explore some different things, and maybe either transfer to an art school or vocational tech school or whatever. But I think you should give it a chance before deciding its not for you.

you might want to look into architecture. it has the fixing things/solving problems aspect of mechanics + the design part.

I didn't want to go to college until I helped my dad with his job. He does not have a degree and is in construction. We live in Texas - it's hot. If you have the idea of being a mechanic, try things out. You may find that's what you want, or you may find motivation for attending college and getting a job with better advancement opportunities and less manual labor.

Like everyone else has stated, college is not for everyone. If you have an interest in fixing things, you could always go to trade school and eventually become a contractor or own your own shop if you want to be an auto technician.
