So I've applied ED to Swarthmore, and I'm really happy about my choice. Of course, I'll be a lot happier if my envelope on December 15 brings warm and friendly messages of acceptance, but I'll just have to wait it out.
Anyway, to get to the point. I was recently discussing college choices with this guy from my school, and he sort of made a face when he heard I'd chosen Swat. Not, of course, because he doubted or wished to mock the stellar academics of the institution. Rather, he said he could never consider appying to Swarthmore because when he visited the food tasted like regurgitated cottage cheese (or something like that.) I'm pretty sure he was joking and exaggerating just a bit, but does anyone know anything about the food?

I go through phases, it seems. I enjoyed the food for the first week and then things began to deteriorate. It seems much, much more tolerable now, though(perhaps because I have become desensitized to it?). I tend to check the menu before I go and if there is nothing that has been established as safe, I will head over to Essie Mae's. There, you can use your meal card to get a limited amount of generally good food. They have a deli area where you can get hoagies, burgers, chicken fingers, salads...so I wouldn't be terribly concerned about food (however, you might have to get used to it).

On my visit, I only ended up eating on campus once, but I remember it being fairly average cafeteria food. It's really not that bad. The only qualm I had was the fact that there is only one dining hall on campus...

My daughter says the food is OK, just gets a little repetitive. Some things are better than others.

There is always a good salad bar and grilled items to order.

The fact that it's a little boring and bland at times creates a really funny cult obsession with certain items.

For example, twice a week pasta bar is served, and the lines wrap around the serving room twice or three times...

Other favorites seem to be falafel bar, jerk tofu, breakfast bar, and of course, ICE CREAM BAR...

It's quite vegetarian friendly, if you're into that (I'm a vegetarian.)

The food is reasonable, and you get more meal plan options after first semester, so you don't have to always eat in Sharples.

indeed, looking forward to the sushi bar....
