I really need a good hook..

but I don't have one as of now=[ hahah..

anyone have any ideas of what I can do.. I've been thinking forever on this

one word
essay.

you really don't need a hook, imo. just be yourself, and it should be enough, and if it's not, it's their loss.

A hook exists because you are a very unique individual. What you are asking us is how to be unique. Think about that for a minute.

A hook is something major that makes you stand out from other applicants. Unless you win a Nobel Prize, find a cure for cancer, or invent a car that runs on vegetable oil sometime within the next week, you probably don't have a hook. A hook isn't something you "come up with" a week before application deadlines; it's something special about you that's already there. Just focus on letting your voice shine through in your essays and let your accomplishments speak for themselves.

"A hook exists because you are a very unique individual. What you are asking us is how to be unique. Think about that for a minute."

That's not what a hook is, sorry.

"A hook isn't something you "come up with" a week before application deadlines"

uhh I'm not a senior btw that'd be ridiculous.....

^ My apologies, I misunderstood you. :(

I guess a good hook would be something like winning a major acadmic/sports competition, having a patent...the possibilities are endless. It's good you have a long time to work on it, because with tens of thousands of applicants, it usually has to be something major to really stand out.

I have to disagree with randombetch, though. A hook IS something that makes an individual unique; it's something unusual that "hooks" the admissions' officers attention, and, as I said above, makes the applicant stand out. Some hooks, a person is born with, like being a certain ethnicity the college is looking for, but others can be worked for, like becoming a recruited athlete, etc.

probably easiest minor hook to achieve is do some outside of school independent research, get your research paper published, enter mass competitions, then have a recommendation by your research supervisor.
