Hello,
I am currently a senior in High school, wanting to pursue Pharmacy as a career. To be specific I want to be a clinical pharmacist. I have applied to UF, FSU, FAMU, and I might apply for UCF.

Out of the colleges I applied to, only FAMU and UF have pre-pharmacy AND pharmacy programs (FSU has only Pre-pharmacy.) UF was my 1st choice school, but I recently didn't get accepted, and now I have 2 choices: FSU and FAMU.

The problem that I have is that I don't really want to go to FAMU, because I've heard that it wasn't a good school and it has accreditation problems. And like I said before, after graduating I want to do a residency to be a clinical Pharmacist, and if I graduated from FAMU it might not look so well compared to someone who graduated from UF (or some other school). .

I know that there are other schools like NSU and PBA that have full pharmacy programs as well, BUT I can't afford NSU and PBA therefore I didn't apply.
So the advice I need is, should I:

1.) go to FAMU for the 6yr program.
OR
2.) go to FSU (if I get accepted) for 2yrs then transfer to UF or some other pharmacy school.

I do not want to go to community college, so I ruled that out.
Thanks.

I like the idea of going to FSU first. Don’t you have to go to FSU for 3 years, and then transfer to UF’s pharm program? Or can you go for FSU for 2 years and then transfer?

The problem with that is: what if I don’t get accepted as a transfer?
I heard that it is REALLY hard to get into Pharmacy school as a transfer, because Pharmacy schools look at their undergrads first.

Go to FSU, FAMU is in a lot of bad right now. FSU is a good school, and if you finally decide you want to go to a pharmacy-only program then you can transfer, but in the case that your perception changes, FSU is going to prepare you much better for the future.

@LilyMoon: UCF has a undergraduate medical track as well…

In my opinion you should go to FAMU, If you maintain a 2.75 in all your prerequisite you are admitted into their pharmacy school. Plus you dont have to take the PCAT like you do to apply to other pharmacy schools (it can be very competitive). If your not doing Pharmacy/Business/Engineering then no, it is not the best school to attend. And yes it has had accreditation problems (with money management, not education) in the PAST…

Also, I think what school you graduate from does not look as well as your NAPLEX test scores… You can go to an Ivy school and do average on a standardized test for your major but a person who does very well on that same test from a tier 1-3 school will have a better chance of getting the career that they want… Where ever you decide to go what you put into your education is what you will get out of it…

I like FSU too, its just that they don’t have a pharmacy school, and I don’t like the whole idea of transferring because If you don’t get in your kinda stuck…

@cdames92: Thank you sooooo much. You helped me a lot.
