I Really Need Help, Please!

I live in Texas, and for all this time I qualified for auto admit for aTm, which is where I wanted to go. However, upon going up to the school to get my transcript, I found out I dropped to 27%, pushing me into the holistic review candidate. I'm a rising senior at Westwood, which is one of the really rigorous schools in Texas. We're #5 in TX, and #1 public, open admission in TX (or so that's what we're told). Hoping to major in Aerospace Engineering. I'm a girl, if that'll change anything. Here are my stats:

GPA: above 4.0 weighted (not sure of exact numbers, my school has the database shut down)
SAT: 2080 (planning to retake in November) Math:740 W:680 CR:660
SAT Subject Scores --> Planning to take in October (Math II and Physics)

ACT: 32 eng: 32 math 30 reading 33 science 34 (should I retake?)
AP: 4 on Calculus AB and 4 on English Lang and Comp; I'm taking a lot more next year.
IB: 5 on IB SL French, I'll take physics HL, math SL, WAS HL, English HL and Bio SL next year.

Extra Curricular:
SkillsUSA --> 1st place at District, 2nd place at State, 2nd place at District, 3rd place at State (all for Web Design for 2 different years)
AFJROTC --> all 4 years, I'll graduate as the Group Commander. Started out at the bottom, a jobless freshman, and I worked my way up to the top. An active member of the Color Guard Team, meaning many service hours.
Orchestra --> Violinist
Jobs --> I've applied for a job at a nearby coffee shop. Hopefully things will go well
Honor Clubs --> NHS, NFHS, Tri-M

REACH SCHOOLS:

University of Michigan
University of Colorado
Penn State

WANT SCHOOLS:

Texas A&M
University of Minnesota

SAFETY NETS:

University of Cincinnati
University of Arizona
Auburn University

Thank you so much. I just need reassurance at this point that I'll be able to get into a decent college. We're a middle middle class family, so I'll need scholarships as well.

bump. please i really need help.

What’s your UW gpa? You don’t need to retake both the ACT and SAT. I think act is easier to improve. Your ECs are good, but make sure you demonstrate your passion in a few of the things you do. You’re on the right path, raise your SAT to 2300 or ACT to 34, and your reach schools will become matches.
Good luck, thanks for the chance!

If you need scholarships, you are eligible for some automatic scholarships at U Alabama. Apply early so that you get one. You can still apply to others, but this is a great opportunity. U A has your major.

Your reach schools are all out of state state colleges, and while you may get in, you are could be charged out of state tuition so do not overlook UA which could be an affordable option.

I think you can get into penn state. I don’t really know Ucolorado, and umich is a reach. The others I think you have more than a 50% chance of getting in to them.

@Pennylane2011 I was looking into UA earlier, but ended up picking Auburn over UA. But I think I’ll look at it again, now that you mention it. Thanks!
@IVCUSA11 Thanks  I was mainly worried about Texas A&M, but getting those reach schools would be great haha

@Dream0n‌ going to go to the school tomorrow to find out that GPA, I’ll let you know! Thank you for the chance by the way!

What’s your UW GPA, otherwise I’d say all your schools are match/low reach. Good luck and chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1673832-will-chance-back-chance-me-for-cmc-barnard-bryn-mawr-columbia-stanford-cornell-umich-stern.html#latest

i think penn state and colorado are matches for you. for a&m you definitely have a really good shot at it. i think your ACT is fine and you should spend more time writing killer essays!
please chance me back!!!

You don’t need to choose between UA and Auburn at this time- apply to both- and any merit awards you might qualify for. The difference at this time, is that the UA ones are automatic- meaning if you apply as early as you can, and get accepted, you will have this as a good, affordable option. Auburn might also be a good choice, but to compare them, you should apply to both. Also apply to any honors programs if there is a separate application.

Since many merit awards are competitive- a student is selected among applicants- it sometimes isn’t possible to know the exact costs until later when you are accepted.

The definition of a “safety” is if you can get in- and- you can afford it.

You can probably get admitted to some of your choices, but an out of state college might be more costly than some of your other choices. An award at UA can make this choice very affordable.

AU also offers automatic merit scholarships, however, they have a higher threshold for the amount of money offered than UA. They do have an Honors College that is not difficult to get into but it is a real honors college and can be difficult both academically and schedule wise to stay in.

Thanks! I’ll definitely look into it! Anyone else? Chance me for aTm specifically?

@vballgurl‌ and @Dream0n‌ found out my GPA today! Update --> weighted GPA is 4.7455 and unweighted GPA is 3.5714

I think due to your schools highly competitive nature and your academics you should be able to get into a&m. Not sure if you meant this when you were talking about class rank, but being in top quarter with a combined score of 1300 in CR and math on the SAT will get you into a&m.

@KoaCoa‌ is my gpa okay?

bump

I would avoid using OOS schools as a safety. Your GPA is good and the rigor of your school will be considered.

~bump~ Also, i’m looking at Notre Dame…any thots on that?

You will for sure get into minnesota

bump ~update~ apps submitted to UT dallas, UT, Texas A&M, U Mich, UC Boulder, Purdue and Caltech. Got my acceptance from UTD! fingers crossed for the rest!
