I Really Need Help

what do you guys think my chances are for boston university?

SATs- 1890
GPA- 3.4
ECs- head of several clubs
Attending- Phillips Exeter Academy
Recommendations- Amazing
Essay- Very Good.

And is it wise to take a semester off… and reapply?

I think you stand a good chance, but that's just me.

Wow you went to Phillips Exeter!
Anyways your stats are near the top of what they released as there 25-75 percent if not above. so you probably stand a pretty good chance even though they got a lot of applicants.

depends- you should be able to get into the college of general studies, but how hard were the classes you took when you got that 3.4? if you had a bunch of IB/AP classes then you should have a much better shot... the SAT might hurt as it's getting more competitive every year.

I took 3 aps this term.. and 2 other class that were considered very prominent,

AP Macroeconomics
AP English
AP Discrete Math
Arabic (very hard coursE)
Ceramics 2 (also considered somewhat AP)

Your GPA is below the middle area of 3.6ish that I was told of when I went to BU, and I think your SAT is a bit low as well. You could definatly get into CGS, but whether or not you will get into another school would depend heavily on your courseload and your ECs.

They also might not directly compare your GPA to someone's GPA from a public school, depending on the difficulty of Phillips Exeter.

is the college of arts and sciences a lot harder to get into? and if they won't accept you to that, do they consider you for the other colleges?

No, I don't believe that CAS is one of the harder schools to get into, but I believe it also depends a lot on what your major is. If you don't get into CAS I think you may be able to get deferred to CGS, but that's all.

hmm ive taken 6 aps, and about 12 honors and have 1400/1990 sats. my gpa is a crappy 2.75/4.00 unweighted, but im native american so i figure that should help and i go to a pretty good private school. do u believe i could get into BU CAS or no?

Your SATs are on the higher end, but your GPA is waaay lower than the average or even middle 50%. Maybe if you had a large improvement (like steeply increasing grades since freshmen or sophmore year) you could have a shot.

heh well we will see tomorrow. There actually was a steep increase from freshman year..from 2.7 to 3.3, but i just continued getting 3.3s after. 9% of their students had a gpa between 2.5-3.0, so i figure i have a small chance. If they were going to accept someone with less than a 3 with my sats and ethnic background id think it could be me.
