OP is asking if the english requirement needs to be completed prior to applying or matriculating

@jasonlolwth: EWRT 1A (according to the De Anza IGETC sheet) is needed to fulfill the UC English requirement. You should have already applied to UCSD last fall, so I don’t know what you mean when you ask about finishing it before sending in the application.

If you’re on TAG, you would have had to have finished all UC English requirements this past semester (fall) to be eligible. If you didn’t finish, you’ll be disqualified from TAG and counted as a regular transfer.

If you’re not on TAG, you’ll need to finish up before you transfer, yes.

thanks so much dude. i m gonna to apply USCD at 2011 fall then transfer to there at 2012. and BTW , what’s different between ‘on tag’ and ‘regular transfer’?

@Grimes99:one more qusetion, what’s the meaning of ‘EWRT 1A (according to the De Anza IGETC sheet) is needed to fulfill the UC English requirement.’? u mean EWRT 1A is a part of UC English requirement? or if i wanna to take EWRT 1A, i have to finish all the courses in UC English requirement?

@jasonlolwth: If you’re applying in 2011, make SURE you finish this class by fall 2011, do NOT wait until spring if you’re on TAG (more on this later.) You must have all your UC math and English requirements done by fall of 2011 in order to be eligible for TAG transfer in 2012.

Yes, EWRT 1A is needed to fulfill the IGETC UC English transfer requirement.

That’s the form you should be looking at, especially if you plan on doing TAG.

As for what TAG is:

If you meet certain requirements (3.0 GPA, math/English finished by the fall prior to your transfer, IGETC completed before transfer, etc.) you can apply as a TAG transfer (Transfer Admission Guarantee I believe) which guarantees you entrance to the University, but not a major. In plain English, it makes it easier to get in to a non-impacted major. UCSD’s biology and engineering departments are impacted, but most other majors aren’t. If you aren’t on TAG, the GPA limit last year for accepted transfers was a 3.2 (everyone 3.2 and above got in, those below did not.) For TAG students, the requirement is only a 3.0.
