I really need some realistic advice

Hi guys, I'm really desperate for an actual opinion

I'm a dreamer, a big dreamer and thats not a bad thing. I'm very determined to make it in life and I have big goals. Nothing wrong with that yet I'm worried I'm trying to make gold out of lead.

I want to get into theater, I want to be on Broadway. Most importantly I want to go to a good school, a really good school. The types of colleges I want to go have to be located in New York City. Thats where I have my heart at.

I'm puerto rican, I have 86% grade point average (about 3.0 GPA), I have a horrible class rank but I think its something the guidance office screwed up
(those that are curious are welcomed to ask for an explanation)
I haven't taken the SATs yet but I'm going to march 2nd
I'm involved with my schools theater. I've done 2 musicals so far and taken a few classes to help me improve my craft. I'm very passionate. I'm very active and I'm very involved with the community. I'm also getting involved with lots of charity. I just joined the Redcross. I want to go to NYU or Syracuse. I'm scared that I wouldn't even be considered to go there. What are my chances?

ANY help would be greatly appreciated

im guessing your a junior?

get straight A's till the end of high school. do decent on the SAT.

it not impossible for you to get in, colleges want passion, and if you got good recs and personal statement, you should be fine.

(im not sure, but i think being an under-represented minority helps)

you need to take the hardest course that you can manage and pull off near straight A's. you'll also need to do really well on the SAT/ACT/SAT II's to make up for your low grades.

yes I'm a junior

and I have been trying to take some hard classes, challenging stuff but I only get like B's
Its really hard and I'm trying though

Is it possible to get into NYU?

I applied towards the governors school of art program and say hypothetically I get in, would that be a great assessment towards my application?

I don't know how these threads work here but bump?

keep up your involvement with theater and get as much out of it as possible. do some more plays. win some awards. get recognition. what colleges want are people who excel at whatever they're good at. from the sound of things, you are well on your way. just make the colleges aware that you are good enough to be noticed.

keep up the most rigorous courseload you can possibly handle. don't fall into the trap of taking some easy courses now so that you can boost your GPA.

that's smart that you are taking the sats now. i know a lot of people who take them senior year. just make sure you study and do really, really well.

86 is somewhat low, but if you can ace your sats, really make your ecs shine, get some amazing recommendations, and write the best essays you have ever written, you've got a chance.

this might sound corny, but it's determination that will get you places.

haha, thanks. I'm getting really motivated to do good now. I'm just worried that when colleges read my application, I won't be anything special.

I'm hoping my SATS will come out great and hopefully the clubs, programs and charities will out shine my grades.
