Syracuse has been defraying my college application for weeks. Apparently, they send out emails on Friday so let's hope this is the week where I hear SOMETHING.

Anyway, I've been rejected by almost every college I wanted to go to. It came as a shock because I thought if I applied to alot of the "maybe" schools that I really wanted to attend, one of them might pick me up. I was wrong. Can someone give me some feedback about my chances to Syracuse? It's the last college that will be replying to me and while I was mentally prepared to take a large amount of rejection, I never expected it to be to this extent. I just want an honest opinion as to my chances, so I can prepare myself.

Union College
University of Rochester (Dream School)

It’s weird, I know Pitt is a better school. It’s ranked top 50, more cultured location, top 15 medical school (doesn’t apply to me, but it’s there). But I really want to study in New York, I love upstate New York and Syracuse has always been a school in my sights. This is why I want to go there, if I get rejected I will be devastated, I’ve been turned down from every school I want to go to.

I’m in the same boat, asalahuddin! I still haven’t heard but I desperately wanna go there!

I was rejected at Saint Josephs University… Still waiting on AU, BU, Seattle U and Syracuse. I’m scared now after my rejection from SJU. I doubt i can get into any of those other universities…

I just got a letter from admissions today… finally.

I applied for Dual enrollment in the College of Arts and Sciences and Newhouse. It says I was waitlisted for arts and sciences, did I got accepted to Newhouse then?

I was wondering what the terms of my waitlist are. I applied for dual enrollment in Newhouse along with the College of Arts and Sciences and it says that I have been waitlisted for Pre-Law at Arts and Sciences. Does that mean that I have been admitted into Newhouse, or in some other school of the University and am pending acceptance into the Pre-Law program? I do not mind shifting around my academic goals to accommodate an acceptance as my first 2 years at any college would mostly be General Education, I can figure out if I want to pursue Pre-Law after gaining acceptance.

Syracuse is my top choice school to gain entry to, and I felt that my aspirations to attend Syracuse were rational given my extensive community service and the fact that I had a 29 ACT which would mean if accepted I would be part of the top 25% of the freshman class according to Collegeboard.com. I checked my email 4-5 times a day, waiting for my application decision, I understood that Syracuse was behind in processing their applications, so I forgave that and looked forward to receiving my application decision. I worked really hard to be the student that your University would be willing to accept, and it is truly painful the fact that I am considered a liability rather than an asset to your school, that instead of offering me a seat, you put me into a reserve category to fill in any gaps in your classrooms.

If you can please respond to me dictating to me the terms of my waitlist, and if possible to tell me where in my application or academic resume I lack to become a Syracuse student, I would greatly appreciate it. Can you also give me your honest opinion on whether or not the waitlist is worth waiting for, or should I find my place in another institution?

To be honest, your letter really sucked. After I read your letter by not knowing you in person, and I judged on the content. You’re self center, and keep blaming how the admission process is slow. You will switch your goal to whatever school accept you, and this really show the characteristic of someone just wanna come here for fun and not future goal. If you couldn’t get into CAS, how you suppose get into Newhouse. You can’t just push admission officers like that, because they’re really stressed on making decision.

i’m sorry but I’d have to agree with coolday, it sounds like you’re grilling the admissions committee and it does not show commitment or much interest to the school at all. A better thing would have been to type up and print out a proof-read (by your guidance counselor) and send it to Syracuse via snail mail, it’s much more formal…

In defense, the Admission’s Office, when called, asks people to email letters of appeal, not to send them by regular mail … strange as that may seem …

I think you ruined your chances asalahuddin by writing that letter, sorry, but it sounded pretentious and rude. Not sure what else to add. take your spot at Pitt, it’s a great school!

I agree with some of the other posters, you definitely did not convince the admissions committee that SU is where you want to be. You should have been more understanding period. I was rejected as transfer and I didn’t bother to write an appeal. I however will be applying again in November. Life still goes on, like someone said go to Pitt and move on. If you really want to be at Syracuse then reapply again like am gonna do.

Honestly, I didn’t expect to get accepted, I just applyed because the SU admissions women told me that they have space in CAS so I said hey, might as well try my luck.

Hey guys, thanks for your feedback regarding the letter. I wrote that while depressed and aggravated at my own failure for not being accepted at Syracuse, Rochester, Union, and NYU. I received each rejection letter one day following another so it wasn’t like quickly pulling out a bandage, it was like slowly pulling it out and agonizing over an extended period of time. I lost all optimism at that point and since Syracuse was the last college to send me a letter, my frustration went straight into that letter to them. That letter totally shows me in the wrong light, and I am sorry for leaving a bad impression upon you, the posters, and if I do receive a response from Syracuse plan on apologizing to them. I realize that I won’t get in and I had moved on before checking this thread again. I’m looking forward to a fruitful college career in Pittsburgh.

I totally agree with you guys, it was rude and inappropriate as a response to being Waitlisted, but I’m done with Syracuse and am making my career plan at Pitt.

Hi, this is my first choice school. i’m a senior and will be applying very soon. Looks like folks in my area got in with lower SATs than mine - which is 1700, lower ACT which is 25 - (retaking both). I’ve taken a full load - nearly all academic and i’m over the minimum requirement for math/science/history - 4 years of each - 3 labs and 4 years of science. I’m on the leadership team, captain of my sports team and active in my church. Thoughts in getting in?

I applied ED II to CAS for Fall 2016, can you guys let me know if I have a shot?
