I regret my transfer college choice

Hey guys,

So I transferred to a school that’s ranked #118 on USNews. However, I also got into schools that were ranked much higher and one was ranked #60 and is very well known. During decision time, I was in a very weird place in my life and had been going through some depression. I chose the school I transferred to solely because it was in a big city. I like it here, but I can’t help regretting the fact that I could’ve gone to a school that is much more well known, respected and has greater prestige. I really don’t know what to do now and I cant transfer out again since I’ve signed a lease for a year here. I’m really upset and I feel like this decision will haunt me for years. I just can’t get over the regret. Any advice or help would be great.

In case anyone’s wondering I’m going to Temple Uni and wish I’d gone to Uni of Maryland - College Park.

Most people don’t know very much about rankings of colleges. Temple and Maryland are both very good.

My advice would be to stop looking back over your shoulder with regret at the road not taken. You were depressed and unhappy before and chose this road for a reason. If you like it there and are no longer depressed, it sounds like it was a good choice for you. If you’d chosen Maryland, you might be kicking yourself now for not choosing Temple because you were too caught up in the rankings to go where you would be happiest. Life’s too short! Keep your eye on the road ahead or what you’ll regret later is that you didn’t make the most out of where you are now. Wishing you all the best.

Temple is a fine university and Philly is a great place to go to school. If you do well at Temple you should be in good shape to take whatever the next step in your life will be. Stop worrying about rankings. It is time to stop looking in the rear view mirror and start looking forward.
