Your will be fine. when did you send them. Did you already send the score before?

I sent them last night, first time I ever sent them.

You had no reason to rush. Regular delivery would have gotten them there well within the time needed. Though some colleges say they don’t want rushed scores, that rule was created when rush was done by mail. Now rushed scores are sent electronically the same as regular order scores and sending rush really doesn’t save time except about a day.

@drusba, can you please tell me where you got this information? I’m worried b/c I thought the scores were sent electronically, so I wasn’t concerned about the Nov. 1 deadline for some schools. Tonight, I get on CB to send a score, and see that it says to allow 1-2 weeks for them to be sent. Two weeks is outside of the window I need them to be sent by!

Some schools require all materials postmarked by Nov. 1. Obviously, I have no control over when CB decides to press their button, and they have a reason to NOT press the button until after Nov. 1 or at least, threaten not to, so I’ll be forced to spend $42 instead of $11.

I will be calling individual schools tomorrow, and getting the story from them, and hoping I get the answers I desire. I have no idea how strict schools are, and don’t care to put acceptances in jeopardy.

As to knowing, I have asked CB what it does and asked many colleges what they accept besides just reviewing in fo provided on-line. For all the ones you list, if you ordered scores sent by 10/17, they will be delivered before 11/1 absent some true glitch. Delivery these days consists of CB processing your order and putting scores into the college’s on-line account that it has with CB for the purpose of receiving scores. Sending and delivery occur at the same time. What may take more time is for the college to do the processing necessary to show receipt of the score in your on-line application file with the college, but that delay does not change the fact that scores have been delivered.

Also be aware that for most colleges the Nov 1 application deadline is not the receipt of test score deadline. A small number actually require scores in their hands by Nov 1 but for most, they can arrive after Nov 1, and many even take Nov test scores for EA/ED. For example if you explore Rutgers site, you will find that test scores are not due until two weeks after the application deadline and Columbia and BC will accept the Nov SAT test scores as long as those arrive on time.

Also, after reading your list another time, I see you may need to reconsider one of your applications. Both NYU and Columbia have only binding early decision and you cannot apply ED to more than one college.

Sorry. I didn’t make it clear that I was not the OP, rather just someone in the same boat.

None of the schools on his/her list are ones in our case. Phone calls are all still in order, and I’ll cross my fingers that I get the correct answer when I call.

Just wish colleges were extremely detailed on their websites, and 99% of them are not, especially about this issue. Frustrating as I’m talking about very “elite” schools.

Thanks, however, for your post!

I missed it was a new poster. The one thing you should be able to find on-line for most colleges is the last test date they accept for EA or ED. See if that includes October ACT. If so, the college takes scores that arrive after Nov 1 since the Oct ACT scores are not even released until after Nov 1.

^^Good advice, but not applicable to the EA school in question. I feel confident that I got the correct answers via phone today, and - yay! - no more $31 extra fees for me.

Thanks again for your assistance, drusba.

Do not submit rush score unless you have confirmed with the school. Many schools do not accept rush score. Some do not know how to handle it, while some schools would actually take longer time to put into your file.

Actually that is not really an issue anymore. You will find some of those colleges that have don’t send rush scores rules have now figured out what actually goes on and changed it to don’t send rush scores by mail. A couple years ago, CB changed from sending all rush scores via mail to simply sending them the same method used for regular delivery. For most (possibly all) colleges now, regular delivery is made by CB’s putting the scores in an on-line account the college has with CB. Rushing a score simply means putting that score in the same on-line account except doing it a little faster (often not any faster than a day). Thus, what the school gets is just another score that looks no different and is processed no different from one sent regular delivery.
