This whole thread strikes me as provocatively…fake.
Not what the OP wanted to hear, I’m guessing.
And yet it is true.
Here’s how the census defines Hispanic:
So while Hispanic isn’t a race, unless the college provides a definition for Hispanic, you don’t have to be part of Hispanic culture, whatever that means, to be Hispanic. The system may be flawed, but you shouldn’t feel guilty about using it to your advantage. Be proud of your acceptance and don’t look back. As others have said, it might not have mattered anyway.
ya’ll really want me to be Hispanic so bad
Welcome to the family. Stay awhile.
Everyone is just telling you that your checking of that box probably made zero difference to your acceptance.
Honestly? We could not care less. But if an ancestor is Hispanic, you technically are as well. I think you got your answer.
This is such a messed up system… The major problem here is that lying about race has been incentivized, not that you stretched the truth. This speaks volumes about the loopholes present in “holistic admissions”
I was born in Peru. I’m a true Hispanic. This pisses me off. But hey, good luck in the future.
@NASA2014, One branch of OP’s family is from Argentina. According to the US Census, that makes OP an Hispanic.
