UVA...maybe.....

Why ask this? Everyone is NOT going somewhere when they make their college decision.

vanderbilt, financial aid

Dartmouth College...

i wanted to go to cmu, but they wouldnt even give me a little aid...even after a 2 page appeal letter that listed many reasons y i need it and my interest in the university...o well

that's odd. a friend of mine at cmu told me that cmu openly matches financial aid?

and to answer the thread question, cornell

on sleeping bag weekend, the financial aid advisor told me they'd match my nyu offer, so i sent it in with a 2 page note saying how i need the aid even though they gave me none initially, and after they deliberated, they determined they couldn't give me anything because of...

I didn't qualify (i knew that...i was asking them to match NYU)

They had "insufficient funds"

My dad then went on to call them up and blatantly say that if they could match NYU because thats what the advisor told me, i would accept the admission over the phone because thats how much i liked the school...but he said they had "insufficient funds"...thats my situation with the financial aid office...a disappointed one to say the least

WPI, I cant afford CMU, 13k unmet need(not including EFC) and 10k a year in loans. I got my fiancial aid letter yesterday so I cant appeal it in time.

NYU stern - funny....they gave me more aid than Tepper

Cornell Engineering

Thanks y'all for opening up the spots for the waitlisteesss!! Its odd cause I'm waitlisted but i recieved quite alot of financial aid and i dont really need it.

They're all from last year except post #28.

***!? dammit!

College2006, I feel your pain. CMU is my top choice, but they are the ONLY school that I applied to who didn't offer me any merit aid and its also the most expensive. I've been in the dumps around the house, thinking about it all week. I haven't said NO yet, but probably will this weekend.....

My major was design and I LOVED that design school. But I'll probably go to Syracuse (sweet scholarship) or Cal Poly instead. I'm trying to process the disappointment. sucks......

MIT! CMU's financial aid package was terrible for our family, and I want to go to MIT more anyway. :-)

As for the question of why people are posting here, I was just curious what had been posted recently on this forum, since I hadn't been here for a while. Heh.

NYU Stern :)

Financial aid is CMU's main weakness. CMU research is actually very well-funded (by the federal government and/or corporations), but, because of its low endowment (being a "young" university), CMU still has to rely heavily on tuition revenue to cover fixed/operational costs. As a result, the university cannot match its peers in terms of the financial aid it can offer and ends up losing tons of qualified applicants to other (sometimes lower ranked) universities. Sadly, CMU nowadays is increasingly a school for upper-middle class/rich kids only (please correct me if I'm wrong).

cornell engineering

KSMCB, my daughter was in the same boat as you last year. She got into CMU with NO aid offered. However, she got into University of Cincinnati, which is cheaper to begin with, with a $5,000 merit scholarship and was offered even more from RIT. WE really tried to get CMU to at least match Cincinnati's offer, and they wouldn't budge on penny. Thus, my daughter now goes to Cincinnati DAAP school and loves it there. She has never once looked back.

Turned down SCS for Olin College of Engineering.

Wow! I found CMU's process for appealing your aid to be great. I loved how they ask what kind of aid you want, grants, workstudy or loans. Why I'll ask for some more loans, NEVER. However, I got a decent aid to start with, and asked for 3K more in grants to bring me up to Emory & GWU's package and CMU said sure and we'll see you in September. However, I chose NYU's Stern instead with a much worse package.

So CMU rules. They had a great presentation for prospective students. I was really impressed. But I like NYC over Pittsburgh and NYU has better internship and study abroad opportunities, which sealed the deal for me.

PITT?!! lol why would you choose pitt over cmu
