so i scream on my sleep like several times a week because i die in my dreams or something. And it wakes my roommate up and i'm concerned that he doesnt get a good night's sleep anymore. what should i do? i could sleep in the common area (which i do several times a week) but i can't always do that. same is true for the library. so what other options do i have?? I don't have ptsd or anything like that.

Good luck with the ladies in the future, bro.

I’m sure you don’t have PTSD, but is there a reason behind these nightmares? Have you always had them? Do your parents know about them? Does your doctor? Visitng the mental health center on campus to find out the cause is a better idea than ignoring the problem.

This is something to discuss with a doctor. if you haven’t already. I imagine if you can’t treat the matter it would also be grounds for a single room. I would probably have a heart attack if I woke up to my roommate screaming.

How would anyone on here be able to help you? … dude, go see a doctor.

I had a similar problem last year with shouting (I wasn’t dying in my nightmares, I kept dreaming that my coaches were walking into my room at 3am and making me do sprints), but they went away on their own.

Really? Really? Are you serious? “Christ” gets censored?

Did no one else laugh out loud when they read the thread title? Haha

haha i did. But i mean I guess you should go to a doctor or something .What should your roommate say about it?

I did and felt bad about it. But I got such a visual of some poor kid screaming in his sleep.
It’s too funny

My daughter’s freshman roomate had this problem. At first, she was just talking in her sleep and it was kind of funny. She would talk about shopping and stuff. Then, as she got more stressed out close to finals, she started screaming in her sleep about babies dying and it got kind of scary. D could never get a good night’s sleep and always ended up dragging her mattress down the hall to sleep in a friend’s room or in the lounge. D’s roomate herself never seemed to get a good night’s sleep and was always exhausted. By the end of the year, the girl withdrew from all her friends and had a mini break down.

You should go to the health center at school and they can tell you what to do. They may be able to give you something to help you sleep more soundly so you do not scream in your sleep. They will probably tell you to go to the counseling center on campus. Even though I am sure you are not too psyched to do that, it would be a good idea. Something is obviously stressing you out if you are screaming at night. It would be a good idea to figure out what it is and learn how to deal with it better. Talking to your parents about this would be a good idea too. They might want you to see someone when you are home over spring break.

OP:
Is this something you’ve always had or is it recent?
(I mean the bad dreams).

For me, I get bizarre dreams, from a certain medication I have to take for migraines. And I only get them if I take the medication. Unfortunately, it’s also the only medication that I’ve had any luck with with getting rid of the migraines.

But if it’s any consolation from my earlier e-laughing, I regularly get sleep paralysis - which can be…very, very unpleasant.
