i screwed up on my summer prog app... please help!

i forgot to send copies of my application (i just sent the original) and wrote this "sorry" letter instead. is it the right tone?? doesn't sound too desperate?

thanks for your help:

To Whom It May Concern,

After I had sent out my application packet a couple of days ago, I realized I forgot to attach three, unstapled copies of my application. I am sorry for my mistake, and I have tried to make up for my error by submitting two extra copies of my application packet. Please note, however, that there are minor discrepancies between my original, earlier application and these new copies (i.e. my transcript and advisor’s telephone number). I cannot retrieve exact copies of those materials since my school is closed for spring break, so please refer to the earliest application packet for those portions.

Again, I am terribly sorry for my mistake. Let me assure you that this mishap was an exception, not the general rule, especially since this is my first time applying to such a selective program. Still, I understand there is no adequate excuse for my careless conduct but hope you will allow me to redeem myself. I deeply apologize for all the inconvenience I have caused you, and I thank you for your patience and understanding.

It was fine until the last paragraph. A little melodramatic haha

the let me assure you part…?

cringes gahhh. i’m just upset at my stupidity

Yea, that would have been better with the second paragraph simply removed… I read it and thought noting of it until you tried to be excessively apologetic. I think if I were an admissions person, I probably would have found it to be very minor to have someone missing extra copies and sending them a week later, yet the way you wrote this makes it appear that you think a minor problem is the end of the world.
