street address or P.O. box?

The college application should specify how and where to send the rec letter. What college are you talking about?

I wanted to get my envelopes and stuff together too, but wasn't sure where I should address them to. I'm doing all of them online Common App. Since I have EA deadlines on Nov 1, Nov 11, and Dec 1, I want to get on it this week. I was just going to have both of my teachers give it to my GC, but one of my teachers took this year off, so she won't be at the school. I have all of her contact information, so I wanted to just drop the envelopes off at her house. I need to know what to write on those envelopes! I'm thinking, what ever the Office of Admissions address is, but do I have to put my own name somewhere on the envelope, or what?

Your recommender should include the recommendation form that has your name and ssn with th erecommendation letter. In addition , s/he should include name and ssn in your recommendation letter should the letter get separated fromt he recommendation form when mail is sorted.

what about for colleges using the common app?

I can't find where it says any information about mailing directions

Have teacher mail recs to

College
Office of admissions
Street address/P.O box
City, State zip.

Invest in a few 25 cent post cards address them to your house . On the other side write
Rec'd by
School name

In the corner , write teacher rec and the teacher's initial.

when the office of admissions receives your stuff, they will stam the post card, sign it as received and mail it back to you. that way you will have proof and piece of mind that they got your stuff

^i don't understand the post card thing

When D applied to college (class of 08) she used the common app and applied on line. All of the supplemental information had to be sent snail mail. At the time only Tufts and barnard had on-line tracking of application information.

For all supplemental information, she inserted a post card adressed to herself inside of the envelope that contained the supplemental information. On the other side, she would write the name of the college, date received. In the corner she would note what she was mailing out: application fees, supplemental essays, teacher's rec, GC reports Financial aid information (the recs and GC reports she gave in with her envelopes and forms).

Once the colleges received these items, they would stamp the post card stating that they were recieved, sign the postcard and they would be mailed back to our home address. Every school she applied to was very amenable in signing off that they received infomation and mailed the post card back to our home.

Daughter kept all of the post cards as proof that she mailed in the required items and that the colleges received the information. In addition, it helped her keep track of who recieved what so she would not have to worry about the colleges having incomplete information and delaying her application process.

so you just put a postcard, with a paid stamp on it, inside of the envolope of stuff you're sending via mail. and the college people will automatically know what to do with it?

Daughter applied to 7 schools and we did this process with each school.

In answer to your question, yes, the colleges will stamp the card with the date they recieved it, someone from the admissions office signs the post card and they put it back in the mail.

When we got the post card back, D kept a file with and an additional set of copies of all of her stuff as a back-up in the event that something was missing. In the end, it all worked out. For us it was about $9 well spent because she had piece of mind.

Where would you find the admissions office address of all these schools?

can we have our teachers send the reccomendations to the colleges themselves? my teacher told me just to give him an envelope with the address on it. HOw do i fit a postcard into the small envelope for my recc?

Get a bigger envelope.
