STATS:

Incoming junior. Interested in some weird mash-up of business, science, and music.

COURSEWORK (AP/Honors):

9th Grade- Honors Math

10th Grade- Honors Math, Honors English, AP Psychology

11th Grade- Honors Math, AP Language, AP Chemistry, AP U.S. History, AP Calculus AB (I'm self studying this)

12th Grade (projected): AP Calculus BC, AP Literature, AP Physics, AP Government, AP Economics (Macro and Micro), AP Spanish

GPA:

The last time I checked, I had a cumulative unweighted of 3.8. But it might go down because I didn't do too well in 10th grade ( a slew of B's for my 2nd semester report :( )

TEST SCORES:

PSAT: No idea, taking it for the first time this fall.

SAT: No idea, taking it for the first time this fall. But I am studying for it right now and my practice tests indicate that I usually score around 1750-1900. I might take the SAT in October, and my minimum score/goal is a 2200

AP: They come out next week...! Honestly expecting a 3/4 on my AP Psych exam. 'Twas not easy (for me at least)

RECS: My 9th grade English teacher for sure. We are really close. As for my second teacher, no idea. My counselor and I are really close too.

ACTIVITIES/AWARDS:

Science Olympiad (9th Grade): Basically a club in my school where members study for certain subjects in science. We go to Regionals + State yearly.

-Awards: Placed pretty well at the State competition in my events. ("pretty well" means 1st or 2nd lol. I did the engineering events)

At the end of the year, I was offered a leadership position on the team. But I quit Science Olympiad for my instrument! (treason, xD) So here goes:

Cello: I've been playing for five years now, which seems pretty inadequate if I compare myself with my other cellist friends. But oh well :) It's my favorite thing to do, and it has taught me a lot of great lessons ^_^

-Leadership: Principal Cello of my school orchestra for this year (2014-2015) and next year (2015-2016). <-- This is somewhat predetermined because members are seated by seniority. (It sucks, but oh well :P)

-Participation: In a chamber music program outside of school.
Auditioning for a couple of prestigious orchestras in May 2015? I'm pretty sure I'll get into one, though.
And I'm planning on doing a music camp next summer. Pretty confident that I will get in.

-Awards: None so far, but this year I'm going to participate in my first competition...

-Repertoire (for music supplement): Honestly, I am not sure if I should put this, but I guess anyone who knows about studying cello performance can tell me if my skill is good enough for college? O_O weird phrasing.

Boccherini Cello Concerto in B Flat Major, 1st Movement

Shostakovich Cello Sonata in D Minor, 2nd Movement

Tarantelle- David Popper

I won't be playing all three pieces for my supplement, though.

OTHER RANDOM ACTIVITIES:

-I worked at a non-profit (we focused on educational equality) for two years, and devoted most of my time to teaching students in lower-income areas and raising money for enrichment programs, which took place during the summer. All of my volunteer hours came from this. But I quit due to cello.

-Last summer, I went to UCLA and UChicago for summer camp.

-This summer, I'm an intern at a prestigious university near where I live (Astronomy/Geophysics).

COLLEGE LIST:

So yeah, I don't really have a definite college list/goal list or anything. My friends do though, so I figured I should make one too. I know about the Ivy League universities and stuff, so here are some that I have been looking at:

-Yale
-Columbia
-University of Rochester
-Oberlin
-UCLA
-Berkeley
-USC
-NYU
-Carnegie Mellon University
-Case Western Reserve
-Northwestern
-University of Michigan
-Washington University in St. Louis
-University of Washington
-Fordham

Okay, so I realize that my SAT score and my GPA are not high enough for many of these colleges. I hope that I will break the 2200 boundary and go higher than that, but only the October SAT and my efforts this summer will tell.

Regarding my GPA, I know that junior year is tough (understatement) and I'm preparing for my classes early since I know it takes a long time for me to grasp concepts. I am aiming for A's in all my classes (being realistic, I hope I get at least a couple of A's. There will most likely be more A-'s and possibly B+'s).

I had a lot of stuff happen during my sophomore year (drama is fabulous!) and I know it is my fault. I've been working with my parents, counselor, and my freshman English teacher on time management, focusing, self-esteem, etc etc. Just working on becoming a better, more confident person with long-term goals in mind instead of worrying about the gossip at school. It's tough, but it's going pretty well so far. :) If I had to explain my sophomore year slump, I would tell the admissions office this, but I have no idea how :P I don't even think it's worth saying.

Yale and Columbia may be far from my reach. As for the others, I'm not really sure...

I am open to any suggestions for colleges and stuff :D mainly because I messed up in 10th grade, and I hope there are some nice colleges that will look past my B's.

However, I'm not open to joining any other ECs now because cello and academics take up my life.

So yeah that is the end of this super long post! Thank you for reading it & I appreciate ANY advice.

:)
