Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. I got my financial aid letter, but still have not gotten my admissions letter, even though it was supposedly sent out on the 30th. I got accepted to a program and waitlisted by the one I was most interested in. I called them and they said it's on its way. <insert many="" curse="" words="" here=""> This puts me off so much, I might as well just send my deposit to that Top 15 university even though I was excited to possibly attend CMU.</insert>

AcceptedAlready: I don't want you to use this post as an excuse to explain just how great CMU is. You're valuable to the forums, but for once, can't you agree that CMU admissions is at fault.

It is online. But, I'm not able to know if it is PWL or normal WL. Also, I can't act even if I'm on the waitlist as I don't have a reply card. The admissions people aren't willing to help. I haven't had to deal with any of this with my other colleges. Even Northwestern, the school I got waitlisted to, offered WL on its online account so one could do it easily.

AA: Is it true that PWL is only offered to students who only applied to one school at CMU?

As long as you are not super-late, the date in which you accept the waitlist does not really matter. I think this is why they don't offer this option online.

As for your question: No this is not true. Any top student can be PWL'ed. This usually happens because of space rather than qualifications.

Where do you live? It's possible that the postal service takes a long time to get stuff to you from Pittsburgh, and your letter was one of the last sent out. I know it's unfair but life is that way sometimes.

TD: Not at all. Mail reaches my area really quickly.
njcarpetbagger: Is it too much to ask CMU to send out letters in a timely fashion. Even NYU with the thousands of apps they get are able to send out letters on the same day.

I haven't gotten my letter either (also waitlisted). I called today to find out about the letter and the PWL, and they told me I should have my letter by the end of the week (I'm really not holding my breath on that) and that I could find out about PWL if I called tomorrow. I don't know how reliable that information is, but that's what the lady on the other line said.

CMU may be a smaller school than NYU, but its post office is never timely. It's taken me a week and a half to receive a normal letter postmarked in Texas.

This is rediculous. CMU is totally at fault here, and i blame everything on them. This is not fair to the people who are waiting patiently for an admissions decision. For many schools, we have to make a decision by May 1st. This constant waiting from CMU is not only rediculous, but it's absolutely shameful on CMU's part.

OMG (insert curse words)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i haven;t gotten my letter yet either. I checked online and I'm waitlisted however I still want my letter to respond to the waitlist thing. sigh sigh

"even though it was supposedly sent out on the 30th. I got accepted to a program and waitlisted by the one I was most interested in."

If they say they sent them, they sent them. There is no reason to keep letters especially AFTER the decision has been posted online. It's a frustrating and stressful time but hang in there.

Icried11times: I was just poking fun at your name. Congrats on your acceptances.

yea i havent either...
even though i have decided not to take their waitlisting, it's kinda rude for them not to send a letter...i mean...i get college letters from canadian schools back faster
