I still haven't been contacted for the interview :(

I'm really worried b/c I still haven't been contacted for an interview...and I'm pretty sure everyone else at my school has. I don't think I'm "unqualified" b/c I did get into MIT EA, and my last name does begin w/ an "Y". But still, should I be worried? And does anyone else have the same case?

No dude, I don’t know how many times people have to say that not everybody gets interviewed and it has no bearing on your application status whatsoever. Chances are your interviewer has your name and doesn’t have time to do your interview–that’s what happened for me. Really, it won’t influence your app negatively at all if you don’t have one.

same thing happened to me, don’t worry about it, but if you weren’t offered one by Feb. 15th, I don’t think you’ll be getting one, b/c that’s when alumni interviewers have to submit their reports, sorry :(. But really, don’t freak out about it, you are now officially done with the application process, so just relax, please?

Interviews at most schools are not influencial on the admissions decision. The small handful of schools which consider the interview important make that known in their literature.

Off-campus interviewers tend to be everyday folks (schmoes like the rest of us, with jobs, angry spouses, time-constricted days, their own baggage) who are lightly trained and who approach the interview with different views and expectations. So their evaluations of the candidates are at best generic and uneven, and at worst prejudicial and unusable. Yale makes it clear in their literature that they place little faith in usability of interview data, just as they also do not track “contact” or “interest” by keeping track of how many times you have toured campus, etc, since they realize that it, like the interview results, can be stilted by soft influences like accessibilty, ability to travel, etc.

Guess what I’m saying is: It means nothing. You are in or out based on the rest of your record. Consider a missed interview as one less nagging task in the whole pile of stuff you needed to get through in order to, as happyJane762 said, be officially done with the application process.

So just sit back and relax and have a Fresca.

If it’s any consolation, my daughter didn’t have one either and she was admitted SCEA, so don’t fret. And, congratulations on getting into MIT!

I’m a student here and I didn’t have an interview. Other students from my school did have interviews and didn’t get in. I wouldn’t worry about it having any effect on your application. Good luck with your application, and if you get in, be sure to come visit in April for Bulldog Days! Yale puts on the best admit week by far.

Don’t worry! Yale makes it clear that not EVERYONE will have an opportunity for an interview. Whether or not you have one has no bearing on your admissions decision.
