I just submitted my common app for Caltech, early action. However, I am pretty confused as to what happens next. Common app is submitted, supplement is submitted, and payment is made, but now what? The box next to the school forms indicates that they are not yet complete, but that is to be expected since only my counselor has mailed hers in so far. One problem is that there is no indication that they have (or have not) received the transcript/rec from her. It simply shows all three school forms and collectively says not yet completed. Will the website ever indicate that the paper forms made it to Caltech through the mail?

Also, I did not really get any confirmation for submitting my application. How will I know what my decision is in December? Will the common app show me, or is there some other account on the Caltech website that I should create now?

Thanks for any help clarifying these questions.

Seriously though, if it hasn't been over 2 weeks since your counselor sent off the school forms, I wouldn't worry about it. It takes about a week to get there, depending on where you live, and a couple more days for the admissions office to process it. Most schools either will show that your application is complete & decision choice on the status page or give you an email. If nothing changes, I'd give them a call couple days before the deadline.

she sen't them at the same time she sent the MIT (which doesnt use common app) forms. MIT processed those forms on October 7th... and I'm not sure distance should be a factor since I live in Arizona :P

If you're really worried, you can always call and ask. It would probably be better to do this as soon as possible, since the closer you get to the deadline the more calls from panicked applicants the admissions office will have to field.
