In my andover application, I added a self-portrait I made. Sounds okay, right? Unfortunately, I added this sad face behind my own face and titled it ‘Reflection’ at the top of the page. What I meant to highlight was the rising number of people with mental illnesses, and show that these people seem happy 9 times out of 10. However, it would totally be interpreted as ME being depressed… I know they want optimistic people and I don’t want that to be a red flag. Will it be a red flag, and, if so, is there anything I could do? Thank you in advance, and also for all the help you guys have given me so far.
Honestly, I think you may be overreacting. Which is completely normal, but keep in mind that we often overanalyze our own work more than AOs. If you have already submitted your application, there is nothing much you can do now, so just stay calm and try to look on the bright side: You completed your application!
Agreed.
Don’t worry. 9 times out of 10, applicant and their parents suffer from mental illness (anxiety) after submitting BS applications. Sounds like a thoughtful work that would not cause concern. Be proud of it and being done until M9/10.
@Altras @skieurope Honestly you guys/gals are awesome. I love all the advice you give, it’s all so helpful.
@M0hammad I know the others said stuff too. But, my take on it is this. I feel the AO is more likely to say “Wow, look at this ambiguous peice of wonderful art!” And less likely to purposely draw some assumption about your entire identity. By less likely, I mean I really really doubt it.
Sounds like it will help your application more than anything. Best of luck!
